This beach shows you a very different "Peru" as it shows you only the wealthy and beautiful people. The beach is a (yes, sure, beautiful) gated community and even parents let personnel push their babies' strollers (hey, it is 2016, not 1900!?!). The whole "town" has many shops and restaurants. The whole is not a reflection of Peru...but as a country with extremes...also one of the many realities you can experience.

If you want to really get a feel for extremes, go first to Pucusana (rather working population beach), then to Cerro Azul (something more mixed, with middle class people) and then to Asia...just to see how "Peru" can change only within a couple of miles...

Asia is more of a Limenos weekend attraction for people who want some beachtime R&R, than a tourist destination, with most people renting villas at the many private enclaves (we stayed at Sol y Mar).

Big, wide expanses of beach that feel almost desert-like and there is often a haze, but the sunsets can be awesome.

Super quiet during the week, more active during the weekend with most of the evening action happening on the villa rooftops (my preference) or at Asia Boulevard where there is a slew of restaurants, a big super market, shops, movie theaters, etc. Honestly, I think this is the Peruvian equivalent of the New Jersey shore.

If you're thinking about going to Asia, think of it as an experience that is more about the people you're with and R&R more than a destination or must see in Peru.

At Asia you are not that far from Lima, only 97 km, you can go to the pool and the beach in the day (which is expansive and clean, beaches in Lima and close to Lima are a bit too dirty for my liking, they really need a solution to dumping polution from Lima straight into the sea), and the mall in the afternoon, where they have everything, cinema, hairdressers, department stores, resteraunts, car dealers, city toys a play area for the under 5's, yes a replica of Lima, but near the beach. Both days we were in Asia we went to the mall with our 3 year old, and both days we had to drag away screaming he was having such a good time. For the teens there are nightclubs, at first I thought Asia was just a shopping mall by the highway (what was all the fuss about, peruvians had been raving to me about Asia for years), but after staying there I really appreciate that it is good after the beach or pool to have a relaxing outdoor mall option, which really is like a test lab for all the marketers in Lima going after the A & B segments of the population.

If you're longing for a North American Experience (shopping, standards of service, cost) Asia will be pleasant, but it takes about ten seconds to realize that it is beyond artificial, fueled by the wealthy and is gated to keep out the majority of the population of Peru. Completely out of reach by most of the population of Peru, you'd fool yourself into believing this is the norm only while in the confines of the walls.

Asia beach... there isn't anything on the beach. The boardwalk is not even in sight of the beach. None of the resturants are on the beach. None of the clubs are by the beach. Almost all the beach is private so it's next to impossible to even enjoy it. Dumb

We traveled for 1.5 hour from Lima to spend the day at the beach and eat there, we could not stay at the beach because if you are not a resident you have to bring your own umbrella, chairs, no public bathrooms, the restaurants were at the boulevard (5 minutes driving), the ocean was full of jelly fish. Unfortunately not a good experience. We didn't stay overnight so I can't comment about night life which I have heard is very popular for the bars.

Showy, plastic, and empty. Peru is beautiful and you time is better spent someplace authentic.

This beach and its sorroundings is really nice, but you need to be a local guy to appreciate it and enjoy it.
If you are a guest of a friend do not miss it, if not, do not waste your time.
