From the minute we decided to go until we were back on dry land this 'encounter' was one of the best connections with sea mammals I have ever had.We encountered a huge number of dolphins very close to our boat. The booking staff were so friendly and helpful. They helped choose a day where conditions were favourable by looking ahead at... More

It was my first time to swim with dolphins, and it just blew my mind away! My husband, Mum and Dad did not get into the water and they were so regret that they did not do it! How do you describe the incredible feeling surrounding by wild dolphins, on your right, on your left, and underneath! I think maybe... More

Went on the 8:30am Dolphin Encounter with my brother and mum and it was amazing, we were told there was moderate swells which was fine because we really wanted to do it this time! The swells were pretty bad but we saw albatross, a whale and at least 100 dolphins. I got really, really sea sick because I've never really... More

I went today with my two daughters (age 9, 10) on the swimming activity with Dolphin Encounter. We were very friendly welcomed by the staff and well equipped for the so very cold water in winter. My daughters were given two wet suits each straight from the beginning and the younger one had in the end even a third one... More

We arrived in Kaikoura the evening before and stayed at the Kaikoura Top 10 campsite which is about 15-20 min leisurely walk to the Dolphin Encounters base, don't worry if you think you have walked past the main town and haven't found it as Dolphin Encounters in 5-10 minutes past the Kaikoura information centre and you can't miss it. The... More

Great tour, very professional staff! Saw about 500 dolphins and swimming with them in their natural environment (without enticing them to us in any way) was phenominal! Don't worry about being cold in winter - the wetsuits kept me extremely warm, I didnt feel the cold at all! They even had wetsuit shoes, gloves and wetsuit balaclavas so not even... More

We started out with a sailing out to the south of Kaikoura, seeing Albatrosses along the way. Once at the pod, there was maybe 200 Dusky Dolphins swimming alongside the boat and doing many flips. It was really great to see. I did get seasick, but the caring staff on board was awesome and it pays to stay outside at... More

I did swimming with the Dolphins activity and it was the most amazing experience. The weather was a little rough that day so only confident swimmers were encouraged to go into the sea. Swimming with wild Dolphins is an enriching experience and a must do activity while travelling to New Zealand, the instructors and the gear supplied by the Encounters... More

Being surrounded by 200 dolphin was a surreal experience. Yes it was cold when we jumped in but that was quickly forgotten. I switched back and forth from watching the dolphin underwater swimming so close you wanted to stick your hand out to touch and then up above water to watch them jumping out of the water. Crew was very... More
