We booked Dylan’s Cottages for a 2 night stay close to Kiakoura. Upon arrival we were disappointed. The online photos and nightly rate do not align with what has become an outdated, overgrown and overpriced venue.
We didn't know the hours, and when we arrived, they were actually closed, but let us into the shop anyway. We spent a little time looking around and getting some products and speaking with the owner who emigrated from Scotland a few years ago. I'd...More
A small article in the Air New Zealand in-flight magazine led us to the Lavender Farm self catering cottages.
What a find!!!
Beautiful lavender gardens, with views to the mountains, and amazing night skies. Sheep to pet!
Freshly laid eggs supplied for breakfast.
We went yesterday in the pouring rain which meant we couldn’t view the gardens but we did go inside and had a wonderful chat with the owner and gave her beautiful dog Bonnie a cuddle. We bought a few items which so far have all...More
The owner shared her knowledge and answered questions about how she delt with the big quake. The gardens are lovely, the animals friendly, and the gift shop is well stocked with items made from plants in the gardens.
We didn't find easy to locate but once we did we were not disappointed. Had lovely chat with owner and enjoyed a lavender tea. Took some lovely photos in the lavender fields with amazing backdrop of mountains. Bought some oils which we have enjoyed.
It’s a little bit out of the way but if you’ve ever dreamed of one of those perfect Insta shots featuring yourself walking through a lavender field, this is your chance. Be prepared: the plants are swarming with bees. It’s worth the risk.
Myself, my husband and our son came here the other day we had the best time! We had lavender scones went for a wander in the lavender garden and then went to feed the sheep and chickens, the staff where so friendly!! Really helpful and...More

They have a sweet little gift shop where you can also have scones and tea. They have quite a few lavender and non-lavender themed items and the woman who runs the place is very nice and interesting to talk with. If you have a car I would still pay them a visit even without the garden walk being a possibility (which I honestly don't know if there will be flowers in May or not). Have a wonderful time in Kaikoura! I loved visiting there for almost a week in December.
