Moments off the road and you are within a few feet of seal pups. A few minutes more and you are at the waterfall having watched the pups all the way while being surrounded by bush.

The Ohau Stream Walk was only identified by a sign board. Nothing prepared us as we headed up the walk next to the stream to the waterfall. We were greeted by sights of pups clambering up the slippery rocks and launching themselves in the pools...More

We stopped by this waterfall by chance and are so glad we did. Even in March, we got to see lots of seal pups swimming around in the water. An easy and worthwhile little walk.

It is closed but the seals are still on the coast. It would be a great help to the Kaikoura people if you did still go to the town and look at some of the other colonys though and some of the new wonders that have appeared... More
We are wondering if the walk to Ohau Stream is accessible yet? I understand it was damaged late last year. We are heading there to NZ next week (end of May). If it's still closed are there other places to see seals? Thank you
