We where there just before the earthquake and was a beautiful walk with a big parking space. We were to early to see the babies, but some seals where hiding in the forest.

Well, it was amazing when we visited a few years ago - but as others have indicated, the road is still closed, and so it is impossible to visit at the moment.

The playful baby seals are just gorgeous and it is a very short easy walk to the waterfall. PLEASE NOTE, this is currently not accessible due to earthquake damage from the November 2016 Kaikoura quake.

This was one of Kaikoura's must see attraction. Unfortunately the walk has been Completely destroyed in the 2016 earthquake. There is not even road access at the moment.

I came here more than once. Just to see the pups play with each other. No tour needed. And at times it's just you and the pups.

I toured the Northern half of the New Zealand Southern Island and was fortunate enough to see the waterfall and its occupants. I was so impressed that I stopped twice. I have never seen anything like this. Seal pups flocking to the waterfall and frolicking...More

It is closed but the seals are still on the coast. It would be a great help to the Kaikoura people if you did still go to the town and look at some of the other colonys though and some of the new wonders that have appeared... More

We are wondering if the walk to Ohau Stream is accessible yet? I understand it was damaged late last year. We are heading there to NZ next week (end of May). If it's still closed are there other places to see seals? Thank you

Access is still dependent on the highway. Today when I checked, it appears the highway is still closed. No highway; no access. I can't include the link here; just do a search for Kaikoura highway status and you'll... More

I don't believe that same walk will ever be opened again. The seals have moved from that spot and seem to be doing well. You can still see them in the area.
