Great viewing point

this is a great viewing point to see both big seals and to watch the seal pups play in the roach pools. Easy parking.

These seals are just lolling about on the rocks beside the road. Sometimes they even decide to snooze on the road so you need to drive carefully. So wonderful to see them free and doing what comes naturally.

There were so many seals including baby seals which were sooo cute. It was my first time encountering seals from the wild, and yet so up close. I was thrilled, excited... All at once I forgot about my weary feet. I liked everything and disliked nothing.

I was hoping this location would stay below the radar. I am not sure where else you can get this close to seal pups. They come up the Ohau Creek under the road to a nursery pool. Fantastic easy site to see but be nice and let the seals play.

We were making our way as a family (Mum, Dad, 12yo boy, 10yo girl) from Kaikoura to the ferry at Picton harbour and had heard that the waterfall where the seal pups play at the Ohau Point Seal Colony was a 'must do'. We found the site well sign posted and after about 25 minutes travelling north we arrived. The... More

Just a short walk from the parking area into the forest brings you to a waterfall & pool filled with seals & their babies. Adorable! The walk is easy cause the NZ government builds nice, well-kept walkways into these sights.

Head up the Stream. Its only a short walk. Be delighted with the baby seals playing in the pool under the Waterfall. Winter is the best as there are bigger numbers there

Great experience to enjoy; we were surprised at the insensitivity of some people towards these animals.

Was a great experience though we couldn't see any pups. Its the closest you can get to see the seals in a natural place! No fees to be paid but must lookout for cars parked at the side of the road around the area since there was no proper sign boards. Pleasant & exciting experience for city dwellers like me... More

While driving down to Christchurch we stopped to look at the Seal Colony and had one of the best experiences with New Zealand's wildlife (and I live here!). It is about 20 mins north of Kaikoura on State Highway 1 and isn't very well signposted but just look for the car park and most likely people parked there. Then its... More
