BYO food, chairs, towels, BBQs, shelters, umbrellas, sunscreen, camera, utes, jetskis, biscuits, paddleboards, togs… and just spend the day relaxing. Jumping off the jetty is great fun, and the water is pleasantly warm, being a lake. Take goggles or a snorkle and swim over to the little island across from the jetty, though watch out for the kayakers! There is... More

This was a very easy walk through beautiful Forrest. The view from the cove at the end is speculation. This would be a great destination for swimming on a warm day

It's awesome that nature is so available and free to explore! Little suspension bridges and an easy walking nature trail offer instant gratification to the visitor. Camping at Lake Kaniere nearby is available and Hokatika is a nice small yet bustling place for meals and supplies if you're doing the nature vacation style trip and need to restock.

The drive through farmland is wonderful for a start - surrounded as it is by mountains as a great backdrop. We took the short loop walk which was well described with explanatory signs. An easy walk for unfit older folk like us.

Beautiful ferns, lichens, yes and views. Easy stream crossings. It's booked as 4 hours each way but you can turn around whenever you like.

The setting of the lake is stunning with the snow peaks clearly visible at the back of the lake. It is a heaven for water sports and for those keen on walking. Dorothy falls is well worth the visit too

We started out just planning a four hour walk and had decided that walking all the way round as we'd started a bit late (it was winter and got dark about 17:30) however we made good time on the southern section (the path, not the road) and decided to push on. Beware, just when you think you're at the end... More

a great place to stop on your way cycling from Cowboy Paradise to Hokitika, but watch out for Sandflies and you will need to take your own food except in the height of summer when the camping ground might be open. Serene though at other times of the year as its deserted.

Lots of lovely walks in this reserve, but we didn't do all of them due to the rain. Lots to photograph though which we did. Stopping at Dorothy Falls well worth it.

Stunning lake. Wonderful walks and bike trails. Lovely place to go for a swim or ski. Great place to get away from city life. Watch out for the sandflies!
