Beatiful lake with stunning mountain views

Beatiful lake bordered by snow capped peaks. Great reflections most days. Great picnic spot with campsites nearby. Some very good mountain bike tracks on the lake shore

A lovely lake with stunning snow clad mountains as a back drop with a variety of walks. The serious walker through to the casual stroll are all catered for around this lake.

A good drive off the main road, quite a bit on trusting dirt roads, but there are some good walks around this beautiful lake, including Dorothy falls.

The Forests are amazing! It's the type of bush you could imagine Dinosaurs stepping out of. A wonder around every corner, majestic Pungas (NZ tree ferns) and trailing Spagnum Moss and unlimited types of lichens... And the lake is deep and dark and a well used playground for many aquatic pass-times. An awesome place to visit.

Worth the very scenic drive in from Hokitika. Plenty of picnic room and stunning scenery. Will have to win lotto and build a Bach there.

Had ridden Big Spur in the morning, done the little walk to Hokitika George and made it to Lake Kaniere early afternoon. Leonie and I drove right up to the start of the 11km MTB ride. Wow, highlight of the day. The trail rewards the further you go. It's a hard technical XC mtb ride. Lots of obstacles and a... More

Great lake for taking the boat or the jet ski's out on. It's always packed in summer with campers and boaties and theres a mix of different length walks around there too. Just watch out for the sandflies!!

A hidden gem easily missed by so many tourists fixated on seeing the retreating Fox and Franz Joseph Glaciers. It is well worth half a day to drive from Hokitika to Lake Kaniere and around the back on gravel road towards Hokitika Gorge finishing off with that walk. Calming walks in nature along with unbelievable scenery, water is fresh but... More

We drove from Hokitika to Lake Kaniere and then on to Hokitika Gorge care of a Google Maps driving itinerary. Just added in a couple of extra stops to a trip to Ross. Started with a beautiful stroll to Canoe Creek, then a separate look at the Waterfall and nearby beach.
