A well maintained/developed place of NZ history. Reminders of the hard life of those of the past and mining of coal and coke. Suggest downloading the information sheet from doc beforehand which helps to guide your visit. I would suggest QR code’s at the site as a further upgrade so further information can be accessed.

Came here on a drizzly day with cloud hanging low which made us really sympathise with the people who lived and worked in this environment, not only the weather to contend with but all the chimneys spewing smoke, how awful. The memorial is very moving, eerie with the statue of a miner holding his lamp overlooking the valley and partrcularly with the tragedy at Pike river so recent and such similar results for both enquiries into the explosions. There is also an old brickworks and coke factory remains on site.

Stunning views up and down river. History. You’re given a great insight into how life was at that time. The families. Their connectedness. Their hard work. Their loss. The area is beautifully maintained. There are toilets here too.

This is a very well-designed attraction. It's only a pleasant stroll around but the sense of history is compelling. There are some excellent explanatory boards outlining the history of the site and the technology involved in the mine and its related businesses. Also interesting are the mining memorial and the brilliant bridge across the river. You'll only need an hour here; but definitely time well spent.

A very well preserved area in which you can walk and read about the dreadful accident that cost 65 men and boys their lives. Brunner remains NZ's worst work-place accident.
Everything is beautifully and respectfully presented.
The cemetery and memorial a couple of kms up the road is also well worth a visit.

Really enjoyed seeing the Brunner Mine and experiencing the West Coast Mining history. Lots of great and engaging information panels about the early mining colonies

The old ruins and bridge are well preserved to get a glimpse into what it was like almost 150 years ago. Well worth the trip out of Greymouth.

There is also an awesome waterfall track you can walk. We went in the rain and it was still lovely.

Well preserved remnants of important New Zealand history. Not far out of Greymouth and well worth a visit. Put aside an hour to wander around this well-signed heritage area.

Easy walk, lots of information about a once thriving mining settlement. Plenty to see.

Sad that a monument to NZ’s worst mining disaster in 1896 has to reference other losses of miners lives, as recent as Pike River in 2010.

This is a very well presented walk with loads of information about the past. You wouldn't think there's as much to thos walk until you do it. Driven past heaps of times and finally stopped for a look. Glad I did.

Stopped for an extended wander around the area. The history is great - the tragedy of mine deaths is very present and the memorial is quite moving. Found out a lot that I didn't know about mining and I think the place should be something taught in our schools. We have a lot of history in NZ that never makes it to the classroom

Visited on Saturday 12th May. It is well worth driving out to the Brunner Mine site at Taylorville. There is plenty still there to see with display boards giving a detailed history of the site. And it free to see.
