Fantastic dinner with reasonably priced tasting paddles to sample the great beer and food that was almost flawless. Kids menu pizzas were generous. I had the surf and turf which included some of the juiciest prawns I’ve ever had, delicious mussels and a perfectly cooked steak. My daughter had the beer battered fries which as according to the menu “famous” and they were pretty awesome too. Try the velvet porter on tap. Can’t get enough of that. Just make sure you have a designated driver.

This is a very nice brewery. Large restaurant/bar area with the brewing area attached. When we arrived we booked the tour and received a passport that contained coupons for free beer (any kind). Based on the timing of your tour, you may want to have a beer and order lunch/dinner or just wait until the tour concludes (1 hour tour). Our tour guide was Austin who was very good. He was knowledgeable and funny. During the tour you usually watch a short video but since our group was small Austin actually let us see part of the brewing area. After the tour concluded we had a free tasting with Austin and our group. We decided to eat and have our free beers after the tour concluded. You place your order at the bar and they bring your order out. We ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad and Char Grilled Brewery Burger. The burger was more like a steak burger and not a hamburger. The food came out extremely fast and it was tasty. They do have a gift shop but it’s very small.

Went to the brewery for the tour for there early and have lunch the Asian salad was 10/10 the Caesar salad was lovely and others that ordered food were all impressed. Did the brewery tour the young guy can’t remember his name short with moustache he was excellent very knowledgeable and delivered the information well. Disappointed that we didn’t realise that the brewery wasn’t a working one now so the tour was a bit flat for us. Had a good day as I said the food was excellent

I honestly expected to feel more interested/in love with Monteith’s afterwards, but I did not. For an expensive tour the beers they had on tap were disappointing, food was incredibly expensive, turns out Heineken owns them, and the tour felt like a perfectly memorized speech even to four people. In fairness, the tour guide was kind. Sadly I wouldn’t do this again.

I went here for dinner with friends on recommendation from our air bnb. On arrival, the restaurant was full and as we hadn't booked in advance we couldn't get a table. The waitress was unwillinging to take our names and call us when a table became available and overall gave us the impression that she wanted us to leave. We were unable to get a table anywhere else so eventually as we were ordering takeaway from Monteiths a table became available. It seemed like we were only offered a table as we saw other people leave.

The service a major let down. When our food did come, we were only offered plates as a second thought and we got no cutlery. We had to signal to the waiter for our drinks order as nobody came to attend to our table (we were not allowed to approach the bar due to Covid restrictions). Other tables that had been there for a while received significantly more attention from the staff than us, being the new table.
The quality of the food was well below average.
From getting our drinks until we left none of the staff came to out table to check if we were ok for food/drinks.
Overall, the experience was very disappointing, we did not feel welcome for our first time in Greymouth and I would not be recommending this place to others.

In Greymouth, where dining options are somewhat limited, Monteith's is the shining light.

Absolutely the best garlic/chilli prawns I have had anywhere, in all my travels. I'm a local now however, and always take any visitors I have here with total confidence...the service is quick and friendly, the vibe is great, always upbeat, my go to place.

I've done their $25 beer tasting on a previous occasion, and that went down a treat between myself and three friends, very well done with all the accompanying explanatory notes.

Also somewhere I would feel very comfortable popping in by myself as a slightly more mature woman about town! Love it.

Of course we had to check out Monteith’s and we weren’t disappointed. Yes it’s a cityfied local institution but the friendly local staff and bar food menu with a West Coast twist were exactly what we hoped for. It was a bonus that our accomodation room key had a 10% discount card swinging off it.

We had a brisket burger, Mexican salad and Meatlover’s pizza and all were tasty and satisfying. I would have liked more options on the beer tasting paddle/ and because most of the ones I wanted try (hadn’t before) I simple went with a bottle of lager that was “being discontinued because it wasn’t that popular”. Of course it was delicious.

The shop for both clothing and liquid product was enticing and well stocked. What I felt was missing, or a missed opportunity, was more history/backstory. The sort of thing that sometimes comes on the back of a menu or wall plaques. It was all stylish and cool looking but a bit empty.

Maybe it was there and we didn’t see it, and of course there are the well-promoted brewery tours, but I’ve been on plenty of those so wouldn’t sign up again just for the history- of which I’m sure there’s plenty.

Anyway, we’d gone for a warming pub meal at a local icon and that’s what we got. Would visit again.

Great place to go if you are a family. Get pizza, big fat beer batter fries and prawns, and the coast fried chicken is delicious. Bits and pieces to share with the kids makes dinner more affordable than getting a main each.
Nice modern bar. Tao beer and cider is great!!

Good dinner with reasonably priced tasting paddles to sample the beer and good food. It's a real shame about the beer, since they sell the brewery to Auckland the beer lost his real Westcoast flavor. I can't recommend the beer.

Definitely worth a visit no matter what degree do beer or cider you prefer. Many tasty and one of kind selections, with a waitstaff that will educator and assist with tasting selections. We tried a varying degree of ciders and beers, all unique and tasty. Cool atmosphere.
