An hour well spent
Apr 2021
Enjoyable walk, we knocked it off in an hour. We're reasonably fit, but stopped to take photos and appreciate the view from some of the seats. It had rained the previous night but the track was still ok (boots and running shoes respectively). Won't add to the pics for this walk because the ones here are almost identical to our ones! Tried to find another 1 -2 hour walk in the vacinity and failed. Of course you could just wander up the beach, or at low tide walk from Langs out to Bream Tail. Speaking of tides, we walked the Waipu Coastal one 2 hours after high tide, and that was fine for crossing the stream at the beginning (Waipu end) and gave us enough clearance at the Ding Bay end not to get footwear wet. We also had 2 cars and left one at each end, so yeah, we could've done a return walk if we wanted to get a 2 hour walk! If you're heading to this area for a decent walk, do the Mangawhai Cliffs one and save the Waipu Coastal one for a short walk.
Lunch afterwards at The Cove was superb!

Lovely bush walk

Relatively easy walk, has some stairs. Bit of an anticlimactic end to the walk as it finishes on farmland. Waipu caves is next to the walkway and worth seeing - I have never seen so many glow worms!

Very scenic but...
Jul 2019 • Couples
Waipu Cove is a lovely area of New Zealand with beautiful beaches, shady pohutukawa trees and a surprisingly good cafe. The track is interesting if a little rudimentary but one thing is very poor. There is a strong smell of sewage from the stream that we had to cross to start the track. It appears that there is a sewage spill straight into the stream which is not ideal since we had to wade through it. I would not like to see kids swimming in it as it would be very risky for their health. I wonder if the council could investigate this as it spoils an otherwise idyllic spot.

Coastal walk from Waipu Cove to Langs beach.
Mar 2019 • Friends
The track starts at the end of Waipu Cove where you have to cross a small stream to enter the path. It follows the coast quite closely with distant views of the Hen and Chicks Islands. There are unusual rock formations and pretty rocky coves to see as
You make you way to Langs beach. It took us about 50min to reach Langs beach and an hour back.
About half way back we were hit by a heavy rain storm which made the track quite slippery. So I would check the weather forecast and leave a least a day after rain for the path to dry before proceeding on the walk. There is a nice restaurant close by when you finish at Waipu Cove to have a coffee and eats if you want.

Scenic but narrow and bit tricky to get to the start
Dec 2018 • Couples
This is a very scenic walk with the waves crashing just below. Quite flat so not too difficult, once you get to it - either by wading thru a shallow river or by jumping over the narrowest spot and navigating some rocks and tree trunks. It was pretty muddy and slippery after a night of rain. It's also rather narrow and quite overgrown in places so not a very sociable walk.

Amazing views

Who needs to go to Punakaiki?! You can clamber over pancake rocks here and enjoy fantastic views while getting a reasonable amount of exercise. Was a bit muddy... you get that after rain! But well worth the muddy boots. Will do again.

Fantastic coastal trail between Waipu Cove and Lang’s Beach
Jul 2017 • Couples
Quite muddy in winter so wear wellies! This walk takes you along the coast between the two holiday villages of Waipu Cove and Lang’s Beach. It takes about an hour and a half and takes you past secluded otherwise inaccessible bays (handy to escape the crowds in summer), with the sea coming in and out of view as you walk. It’s a bit gnarly in places (including a short ladder) so leave the pushchair at home.

Great views.

Having last completed this walk 36 years ago, the views hit you just the same. Suitable for kids and able bodied persons. Start from rocks rather than stream crossing for best experience.
