If you are on the South side of Whangarei and you want/need total quiet on a beach with the most spectacular views, then Ruakaka Beach is the place you should go. Do take note of the warning signs regarding rips etc and its good that a large part of the beach is 'dog friendly'. There is only a short walk... More

The only room to have is the penthouse. Roomy and excellent bed. Views unfortunately have a sand dune so not really that good. Although very quiet and excellent black out curtains for a sleep in. Thank you!

What a beautiful place to visit. White sand, lovely walking, great fishing. Only one and three quarters of a hour from Auckland it well worth packing a thermos and lunch and spend the day at tge beach, there's even a river inlet to canoe in.

Great picnic stopover on way to/from Auckland. Huge bay with good surf. White sands, blue sky. Beautiful. Spoilt for choice in nz - in any other country this would be an 'omg' beach, packed with tourists. Here, empty. Toilets clean and well looked after. Freedom camping site nearby. Great campervan pull in too. Surf lifesvaing club next door which might... More

Most of the good things I experienced on this beach has already been written in previous previews. Lovely long stretch of beach for walking, on some days you have the beach all to yourself and you might see less than five people. During summer and Christmas holidays, there are of course holiday makers sunning and enjoying the beach. The surf... More

This beach is spectacular with long stretches of sand. It is easily accessible from the nearby SH1 and you are able to park directly next to the beach acces. Swimming is safe and there is an adjacent life guard station. It is never overpopulated and there is ample room to play games.

This beach is just lovely nice white sand, waves rolling in nice and peaceful. If you want to walk you can walk for miles or just sit and enjoy the tranquil surrounds. Wildlife there amongst the sand dunes pop out for a wander along the beach, which is rare to see these days I love this beach great for swimming... More

You don't have to wait for the height of Summer to enjoy Ruakaka Beach. This incredibly long sandy beach is a fine place to walk and enjoy the benefits of the tang of sea air, collect a shell or two and just get out there with nature. If you are used to crowded, tiny, populated and polluted beaches, then Ruakaka... More

We drove from Pahia to Whangerai and took the detour to Matapouri and Tutukaka and back to Whangarei. Stunning views graet beaches, well worth the detour off the state highway 1.
