Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former quarry in Northland, New Zealand.

The Gardens are open to the public and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a scented Camellia collection, a plethora of NZ native and exotic plant species and so much more...

The Gardens are a work in progress and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies and other interest groups.

Entry is by GOLD-COIN DONATION, with all proceeds used to purchase plants and equipment. Thanks!

On a sunny Sunday morning after much rain, there were many people enjoying these wonderful gardens of natives and exotics. There were many things to catch the eye, especially the waterfalls. Children were delighting in the extra puddles but in subsequent trips they may have attempted the quiz questions scattered through the beds, or tasted various herbs. Whether travelling by... More

Visited Thursday 1st September. Very impressed with what they have done to create a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors while exploring the old quarry. Walking tracks are easy to get around to view and enjoy the garden from different angles. Well done.

For a quick overview or introduction to flora of NZ this is a pleasant setting and informative. Worth maybe a half hour to visit without doing the hike.

Love visiting the gardens. It's definitely worth going in different seasons, as you get to see the different plantation at different times of the year. Make sure you take a bottle of water, and maybe even a picnic basket, as it can get really hot in summer, and there are plenty of places to explore.

Superb place for a walk amongst magnificent vegetation. What an effort by the gardeners and the community. Neat café with a view and always a fresh selection of sweet and savory delights. Grand coffee and a warm smile from the staff making it a family friendly setting. Consider this as a stop over on your way just minutes from the... More

One of the most see places in Whangarei. The Garden is forever changing and growing therefore one can find different things to enjoy time after time. The Cafe' has great food and is a wonderful place to enjoy lunch and view the surroundings even on a rainy day

Good to have a walk - it was lovely and peaceful. Right at the end is amazing rock formations from the quarry and a waterfall. Gold coin entry and there is also a cafe which looked busy (we didn't go in).
