Went with nephew who was visiting from USA. Was ok, but not fantastic, unfortunatly some of the exerbitions were closed & the one with wetas in a cave was dissapointingly closed as he is particularly keen on bugs. Worth mentioning that we did not pay...More

Te Manawa is the new home of Santa's cave and it celebrates 100 years of existence this year. I remember most of the displays from growing up in town, so this is a wonderful nostalgia visit. Great fun for all ages.

The permanent displays fascinate kids and they are easily accessible . Feature exhibitions are always well worth a visit with a range of static and interactive displays.

Totally impressed with the hours of indoor interactive entertainment for my two young kids! The water room and play supermarket were huge hits, so much so we didn’t even get to the kids zone. We came back the next day and spent another two hours...More

Our wee toddler had the best time here, we were stoked with how much time it took for him to get around and play. He touched and manipulated all of the fun interactive gear in the children's zone. And loved the museum, but that was...More

Trip to Lake Taupo and Palmerston North from Auckland (10 Replies)
Hello, I am from Singapore, but as of February this year I moved to Auckland for postgraduate studies. I have a couple of old school friends who moved to New Zealand, and one of them now lives in Palmerston North. I thought of visiting her on the very first weekend after the exams (24-25 June). If possible, I would like to bring a few other Singaporeans I recently met at my university to join me, so we're talking about a group of 2 to 4 people, or maybe more (but that's unlikely). As my...More

Personally, I think trying to drive Akld to PN in one day is too far - it is over 500 Km (a bit further if you add the detour via Taupo). Do you expect to pay for 3N accommodation? If so I recommend staying the first night somewhere north of PN, depending on which route you choose (one problem with taking SH1 is the slight risk of snow/ice on the Desert Rd).
