The nature and wine tour with Dirk was a real highlight of our trip. Dirk is a profound connoisseur of Australia, its history, geology, flora and fauna and a gentleman who always asked how much we wanted to hear. In addition, he knows all wineries on the Margaret River and has recommended excellent wines. Not to forget his excellent lunch for lunch in an idyllic place prepared by him. We would highly recommend this tour with Dirk Hos. It will remain a very impressive event.

It was advertised as a food and wine tour with gourmet lunch...we were expecting to have lunch in a restaurant in one of the wineries ...turned out to be a packed picnic lunch on e grounds of a winery. Included in the itinerary was feeding of stingrays at Hamelin Bay but when we got to Hamelin Bay and asked about it, Dirk said that it was possible only in summer when the stingrays come in. ‘Picnic lunch’ and not gourmet lunch, ‘hand feeding /spotting of stingrays only in summer’ should have been stated clearly in the itinerary. Itinerary included Admission/Entry to Caves Road, Admission/Entry to Boranup Forest.... turns out these were all roads free for all to drive through. To the uninitiated, it appeared the cost of the tour included admission fees to these places! V misleading write up and overpriced. Renting a car to drive around for 7 days cost us half the price of this 10am -5 pm driving around tour!

Dear Mobile395825 That’s unfair. I provided you with everything you read when you booked. However, I certainly can’t seem to please everyone, even though you did seem to be enjoying yourselves and said so to me. Tripadvisor/Viator had somehow listed Caves Rd as “free entry” in your confirmation email but this is not on the website information when you booked. It only says PERHAPS feed stingrays. I should have add it is weather dependent. They are wild animals and even when weather is good, they are sometimes not there but on your visit the waves were too strong for them to come close to shore at anyrate. I’m sorry you felt the lunch was not as you expected. My advertisement does not mention a restaurant. It simply says lunch will be “at a small boutique winery” so where you got your expectations from, I don’t know. I believe the picnic lunch I served was every bit as gourmet as you would get in a restaurant, only more substantial. You certainly enjoyed the lovely cheese platter to start with, a main of beautifully roasted chicken, a fresh garden salad, fresh garlic bread and some grapes to finish and of course a glass of wine of your choosing. We vary our lunches, depending on the day. And the location is very beautiful. To be a nature tour operator, I have a special license from Parks and Wildlife that enables me to take passengers to Hamelin Bay and other locations in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. I am also an accredited tourism operator by WA Tourism. Few other tour operators have this license or are accredited. It is expensive to maintain but still my rate is very competitive. All other wine tour operators are unable to visit Hamelin Bay. Even though the stingrays were not there, it is a beautiful location and has some interesting stories to tell. So I’m sorry the Viator confirmation email was a bit misleading but your expectations were not based on the information you read when you booked. I’m quite proud of my scenic, nature and wine tour (as it is titled) and I think you have been very unreasonable and hurtful in your review of a 7 hour tour that you said you enjoyed. Dirk

Dirk knows a bit about everything. We stopped for savoury then sweet with some coffee between. Moved on to see some amazing views, took some great photos. We had lunch at his BnB and then moved on to the wine tasting. He selected great places and tailored the day to our requests. Couldn't fault it.

Dirk runs a lovely tour showing not only some small boutique wineries but amazing landscapes within the area. We had a beautiful homemade lunch and we were able to take our 7 month on the tour as well. Loved all the tastings including olive oil, chocolate, coffee, wine and nougat. Highly recommended.
