I knew nothing about this before we arrived in Geraldton. It’s a MUST. The dome is made of a seagull for each of the soldiers who perished. The names of each are engraved in two walls and the bronze woman, sculpture, depicts someone waiting in...More

The memorial is very moving and tells the story of the HMAS Sydney sinking. Try and get on a tour by local guide.

The HMAS Sydney memorial is a must do when visiting or passing through Geraldton. The memorial itself has had a great deal of thought put into it and has been presented beautifully with information boards giving you a good insight into the tragic event. From...More

This memorial is so evocative and invites contemplation. Beautifully designed by the artists, it is rich in symbolism and is a fitting memorial for those who were lost on the Sydney. The views from there are also stunning, and we watched the sun set behind...More

I love the design of the gulls flying a credit to the artist and planning of the memorial, the statue of the women waiting for her husband to come home is also very beautifully created.

Beautiful memorial to the sailors from HMAS Sydney, the best memorial I have visited. Make sure you arrive when they are giving the free tour at 10.30 am as it explains how the memorial came about and how the different aspects interact.

This memorial is a must see if you visit Geraldton. It's incredible and it's national significance cannot be understated. Credit to the architects for their vision. Absolutely world class!

Agree with all other reviews. Particularly like the flying birds representing the lost souls, the waiting woman and the compass bearing pointing to the exact spot. A beautiful and fitting tribute and full marks to the designer and all those involved in the creating of...More

A respectful tribute to those lost on the Sydney. We went in the daytime and again in the evening and the evening with all the lights was memorable and sombre befitting such a tragedy

Maybe your cruise line will provide bus transport to the memorial. Otherwise a taxi would be the way to get there. There were guides on the day we went.

Hi Kevin, the memorial is in Gummer Ave, just up from the centre of Geraldton, I would suggest that you drive up to it since the approaches are quite steep. Parking is not a problem at the entrance to the memorial. The whole... More
