Open? Your kidding
Feb 2020
Tried going there when the visitor center said it was open, all the website said it was open, even the sign out the front.

Guess what, it was closed.

Don't expect us back.

Pioneering Shepparton – Where Are You?
Nov 2019
Revisited Shepparton Victoria after many years to relive some valued past memories - but most were not to be found. This once grand pioneering country Town/City featured many fine examples of early Australian Architecture, classic shops and homes, has been largely torn down and replaced by your everyday type shopping malls and supermarkets. Shepparton now looks little different to any other suburban centre - with its local fruit-based industries sadly closing down (victims of the Global Economies sell-off curse).

Numerous old classic timber establishments such as Sherrin’s Guest House at 108 Nixon street is no-longer to be found, along with numerous other hotels, etc, that once gave rest to locals and travellers. Surprisingly, Shep Bowling Alley remains as a testament to the past but little else. The lake, (once the largest man-made lake in Australia) to the council’s credit, remains well maintained and worth a healthy stroll.

The historical Heritage Centre is well worth a visit and run by a friendly chap who made us most welcome but as much as he tries, struggles to maintain the many vanishing memories from earlier days.

Surrounding Maroopna (once the home of Ardmona Fruit Cannery) still offers pleasant examples of yesterday with fine bakeries and gift stores. If wanting well-preserved examples of early Australian country architecture head to Bendigo, Echuca or any of the many interesting surrounding areas.

Take a trip back in time
Jul 2019 • Couples
We visited the Heritage Centre while on a day trip to Shepparton.
The fellow in the office was very informative and helpful, giving us some great background knowledge prior to us looking through the museum.
There is a lot on show - heaps of local history to read about especially about important settlers and community members. But there was much more ... examples of early phones, phonographs, machines, furniture, farming equipment and more. This would be a great learning experience for school aged kids and there were some questions for them to answer at several of the exhibits.
Definitely worth a visit.

An amazing collection
Mar 2019
A great place to explore our local history through viewing artefacts, machinery and photographs. A sad reminder of what buildings have been destroyed through the ludicrous decisions of former Councillors. What a pity the beautiful old post office is no longer a feature in the main street.

Suitable for children, although they will be tempted to touch as the displays are not behind glass as would be the case in a normal museum.

Excellent little museum of Shepparton history

We spent an absorbing couple of hours at the museum while visiting Shepparton. Very friendly and informative welcome and then you can go through the museum at your own pace. Lots of interesting memorabilia of past life in Shepparton. NIce there are chairs scattered throughout the museum so you can relax a bit while absorbing each display.

Lots of memories
Dec 2018 • Friends
A lot of the stuff is old and “junky” , but it brought back a lot of memories for me.
Friendly attendants and we were made to feel very welcome.
Like Aladdin’s cave, this seems to go on and on. Well worth the entry fee.

Great little spot of history
Jul 2018 • Family
Very quaint little museum. Clean and well presented.
Entrance fee was fine and the historical books for sale were great. I loved how people can add there own little comments on sticky notes all around the museum ( way better than a visitors book that no one reads ) my boy is home schooled so he got some great ideas to do little projects for himself as projects ( the matchstick post office and the old screw Star of David sparked his interest)

Step back in time

This is a wonderful museum built around Sheppartons oldest surviving building (The old Public Hall 1873) Fascinating collection of memorabilia through the ages, local history and general information on this great township.

If you love local history, come here!

Great selection of historic artifacts, local history, a variety of books and other attractions.

Quite honestly, the only draw-back is a lack of available parking - (Shepparton Council - please fix!)
