The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was Australia's largest inland port and indeed the third largest port in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Authentic steam driven paddlesteamers depart daily from the Echuca Wharf which originally extended 333 metres in length in the 1880's and has been recently been reconstructed.Home of the TV series "All the Rivers Run", the Port of Echuca will provide you with a glimpse of what live was really like in the late 1800's. With the new Discovery Centre now open, it is indeed an attraction not to be missed.

A very knowledgeable and interesting lady took us on a walking tour which was fantastic! Loved it! We learnt so much about the history of the Port of Echuca. It was great to walk around and view the displays in our own time. Very interesting.

It is disappointing that the Echuca wharf is now inaccessible unless you are prepared to pay! Having done the paddle boat experience before, we would've just liked to walk around looking at static displays i.e boats and the wharf, but alas, it isn't possible. Compared to previous visits, there was less on offer for us this time. It just seems... More

We had booked lunch on the PS Emmylou so we decided to take the Discovery Centre Port tour as well. Our guide, Eleanor, provided an informative and entertaining commentary. There were some young children in our group and the commentary was at a level to make it interesting for them. Tour highlight was the underground bar and escape tunnel at... More

Accomodating and friendly staff. Well laid out information easily accessible. Modernised historical pumping station taking advantage of the views. Accessible with plenty of parking.

Very informative. The "After Dark Harbour Trip" with Joel Pier was the best part. The way Joel told the stories and his passion in what he does is really impressive. Thanks Joel for letting us know the history of Echuca with such a personal touch! The Discovery centre guys helped us find our way and the walk by the river... More

Discovery centre seemed too clinical. I was after history and I got that in the main Street, for free. Glad I went but it seems the history has been removed. Would have liked to see a lot more history but apparently the local council has taken all that away.

Thank you for your feedback Karlie. We have attempted within the Discovery Centre to provide the visitor with a sound interpretation of the importance the Port played in the early history of the region and indeed Australia. Once you leave the Discovery Centre you can then experience the PS Success restoration project, the Evans Brothers Sawmill, the working Steam Display,... More
