    Great family activity
Informative tour of gold mine. Great presentation by Nathan. Terrific for children and adults alike. Learn about the mining of gold and go underground into the mine. Very safe tour, plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Learn about drilling, the history of the mine and how to tell the difference between Gold and Fools gold.
Hey Tracie, thanks so much for the great review! Amazing to see you enjoyed your time with us, and got to learn some interesting facts about mining. We've passed on your kind words to our tour guide Nathan as well.

MVP Elf to the rescue today.
What a fantastic experience. Was made better by this MVP Elf helping out this little elf in training. Isla demonstrated patience, compassion and all the greatest attributes a mentor elf can express when one is not having the best moment thankyou for turning around her day.
We're glad to see you had a wonderful time at Elf Academy here at CDGM! Thank you for the wonderful review, and for the very kind words about our elf Isla, she will be thrilled to know she helped a little elf's day.

Great views and a lot of thing to do
Too many thing to do there. The gold panning shed was extremely popular. The underground tour was great with a lot on display including old fashioned drills and out tour guide baz was extreme skilful and helpful through the tour. They let us in the next day too as we entered quite late.
Thanks Daniel for the fantastic review! We're glad to see you enjoyed your underground tour with Baz and exploring the surface of the mine. Thanks for taking the time to come back and check everything out the next day.

    Fantastic Tour of the Mine
I had a great tour of the mine. Nathan our tour leader was simply superb. Not only interesting and informative, he ensured that we all left with a greater appreciation of the hardships the miners endured in doing their job and threw in some valuable life lessons in as well!
Thanks for the great review Rod, we're please to see you enjoyed your underground tour! Thank you also for the kind words about our tour guide Nathan, he will be ecstatic to know you enjoyed your tour and took away some new facts!

    Excellent experience 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 5 stars from us! Thanks Baz. Highly recommend 👍
I don't often write reviews but I just have to say how fantastic our tour guide Baz was! He was so enthusiastic and our small son Alex was being a bit of a ratbag trying to take his helmet off. Baz kept him interested in what was going on and made sure he was a part of the fun so he didn't loose interest..he was absolutely awesome. I would highly recommend this tour.! It was fabulous 👌 And couldn't fault Baz. Thanks for a wonderful experience! 😃 My 4 boys raved about it for the rest of the day. !!!
Thank you so much for the amazing review and kind words! We're glad to see you and the family had a wonderful time on the underground tour with Baz, he will be wrapped to know how much you all enjoyed it!

My husband, kids (12 & 10) and I all loved the underground tour and exploring the above ground site. Booking online was easy. The check in process was seamless. Baz, our tour guide, was amazing. His knowledge was exceptional and his enthusiasm was contagious. Baz's delivery and attention on everyone in the group made us feel like we were the only tour he was doing that week. Given it was towards the end of the Easter holidays I'm sure Baz was exhausted, but it didn't show at all.
Hi Kirsten, thanks so much for the fantastic review! Wonderful to see the family enjoyed the whole experience from the purchasing process to the tour. Baz will be greatly appreciative of the kind words you have left, we're glad we could bring some fun to your holidays!

    Can't recommend this tour enough!!
Excellent! The above ground displays are great and all original as this is the actual mine site. You can even pan for gold. We also did the underground tour ... BRILLIANT! this was so cool and goes for about an hour. You go 61m underground (a bit chilly at 14oC) and walk on one of the levels of the old mine. You get to see the old cages and the ladder for the miners to enter the mine, drills (with an actual demonstration), a simulated explosion blast, and gold in a quartz seam. Our tour guide was great and was very knowledgeable, so much information and history. Very well priced and you would need a good 2 hours to do the underground tour and have a good look topside.

We really enjoyed our visit here as we could take our dog !
First up this place is dog friendly which was great! We spent ages here looking at above ground gold mine. You can pan for gold which was a bit of fun. Amenities are good and staff were very helpful and friendly. There is a miniature of the mine which had working parts. There is so much to see. We really enjoyed the whole place and also purchased some souvenirs and a nice piece of jewellery.

    Interesting and informative tour
This was an interesting tour deep underground in a gold where an excellent guide named Baz showed us the old methods of gold mining and the later methods. Very interesting and informative tour. There was also all the buildings and equipment above ground used to run a mine and keep it safe and clear of water, that we were able to visit too.

One of the best tours I’ve ever experienced!
Nat gave an exceptional tour of the mine and was deeply knowledgeable of its history. I sincerely appreciated the passion he put into telling our group a story instead of simply giving us the tour. He shared family accounts and the vivid history of the mine down to the most minute, but fascinating details. Nat’s passion made for a fantastic tribute to Bendigo’s history and the importance of mining (and miners) to Australia. A MUST SEE while in Bendigo!

I was left disappointed in this tour which began with helmets being too big for my 4 and 6 year old children. We were informed that the helmets were never to come off which was fine but if you can’t supply smaller helmets for children then expect them to come off! We were singled out in front of the group because our child tried to itch his head and take his hemet off. The tour guide spoke in a tone that was inappropriate and unappealing.
I would recommend people don’t go with small children at all as you are set up to told off anyway because of their helmet issue.

The underground tour was booked out so we looked around the surface. Our favourite bit was climbing the stairs and walking across the headworks. The engine room was our favourite exhibit but we also liked the short video in the museum.

I had to forego the mine visit due to a cold which was a disappointment since it looked very interesting. So we completed a tour of the surface where there was plenty to see and a guide provided a wealth of information on gold mining. The surface is dominated by a huge 22-metre-high poppet head. You can step inside heritage-listed buildings which were essential to the mine’s operation, including the old Blacksmith's Shop, the First Aid Room, Carbide Lamp Room and the impressive Engine Room. The mine operated from 1939 to 1954 and extracted 929 kg of gold (about $50m. today). It went down 412 metres with 17 levels and 15 kms of tunnels. I bought some gold flakes as a cute souvenir. The replicas of the hand of faith and welcome stranger gold nuggets were huge.

We opted for the 1 hour Mine Tour. You get kitted out with a helmet and light, and a safety talk before entering the mine. The tour goes in a one way loop with the guide giving you snippets of info as you travel around the mine. It can be a little chilly so take a piece of warm clothing. On the surface you can look around the museum and workshops. The cafe and shop staff were very friendly and helpful. A great day out.

Thanks for the fantastic review! It's an average of 14 degrees underground, great tip to bring a jacket along. Hope you'll be able to visit again soon.

We enjoyed a personalised tour today with Jeremy. He was the perfect host, telling us about the workings of the mine and the lives of the men that worked there. I would highly recommend the tour to anyone coming to Bendigo.

We did the underground guided tour, learnt a lot and had an absolutely fantastic guide.
This was great value for 1.25 hours, highly informative.
Nathan is a really personable guide with great experiences and stories.
The above ground area is good but you would short-change your experience if you didn't pay to do the underground tour

We did the underground experience with Boz our knowledgeable and entertaining guide and former miner.
61 mtrs down we learnt a lot and found the experience enjoyable. It wasn't scary and is suitable for all ages. We had a 3 year old and Boz engaged with Ivy, getting her the press a button and also a thumbs up or down when we were determining how solid some rock was. So the tour is suitable for all ages.

What a great tour! Not only was the mine an incredible viewing glass into the past, but our tour guide (SJ) was absolutely fantastic. I took a group of young geologists to the tour and we certainly got a lot out of it. The tour guides are equipped with historical and geological knowledge, and the exposures of the rocks underground are excellent for showcasing to budding geologists and any general rock enthusiast. I'd highly recommend to anyone in the area who has an interest in geology, gold prospecting, or Bendigo's history.
