Back in 1873 the then Mayor of Bendigo, (McDougal) wanted to turn this old mine site into a park and in 1878 they commissioned the Director of the Melbourne Botanical Garden to develop a design and much of his work in seen today in the lake and surrounds. Nice area for a walk.

The lake is close to the Mercure Bendigo Schaller hotel and is a great place to have a wander and relax. There is a cafe at the lake which we have used previously, but this time we just had a very pleasant picnic!

A recent visit to Bendigo saw us return to this beautiful place to walk. A sunny day with lots of families and their dogs on leash the wide well paved path makes it ideal for walkers of all capabilities. The bird life and lovely greenery surrounding it provide interest and shade. An on-site coffee van provides excellent coffee to be enjoyed on your picnic rug or on undercover seating or seats around the lake. Off road parking - or drop off point - is available.
