Nice Collections!

We went in as we miss the bus to Botanic Gardens, But it's really worth visiting. We spent more than 2 hours.

I went for a wander through the gallery today and the work of the artists amaze me. What talent. The layout is very inviting and not overwhelming like some other galleries I have visited. The gift shop has a nice selection and variation for the art lover. To finish my visit, I popped in for a coffee in the café.... More

As a long time resident of Ballarat and recently retired I decided to visit the Art Gallery and take advantage of the 2pm daily tour by one of their volunteers. I have been before but not to see the permanent collection in any detail. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and learnt many things about the Gallery, the paintings and my... More

The Ballarat Art Gallery in beautiful Lydiard Street is well worth a visit as well as repeat visits. The permanent collection is impressive particularly the Australian collection. The Lindsay family were local artists and a collection of works celebrating their talents are exhibited. The gallery is free except for the temporary exhibition section. A donation for the upkeep of the... More

The Art Gallery of Ballarat is one of Australia's oldest such institutions. It has a great permanent collection and certainly over the past few years a fine tradition of temporary exhibitions, some of which gave gone on to your other galleries. Last year, 2015, and again this year it will also host the prestigious Archibald Prize. Definitely worth a look.

Free admission head straight upstairs for Australian art. A fabulous chronology stretching from early ballarat days, planning, goldrush days and then Roberts, Streeton, Withers mccubbin and then some stunning pieces from Pugh, Brack, Nolan. Its well presented and placed on historic lydiard street. You don't have to bee 'informed' just know what appeals and its a great way to see... More

We recently visited to see "The Last of England" Exhibition which we enjoyed very much - makes you think about things.. Whilst there we also did the 2 p.m. tour of the whole Art Gallery which was also very interesting. You can do your own thing too so you can visit any time you like.

Most enjoyable visit, and I was quite excited to see some paintings done by people I had met or knew of or had prints in our home in the Australian section

My wife and I had some time to kill while waiting to see a movie. An unexpected pleasure was the vast variety of many artworks. Also enjoyed coffee and cake in the cafe.

We came up from Melbourne to see the Pam Hallandol exhibition which was fabulous. She deserves to have a higher place in the canon than currently. We had the bonus of seeing the Rick Amor Drawing Prize which was amazing! So many talented artists out there! Then there was the Ballarat exhibits which I also enjoyed. Fabulous
