The renovations and refurbishments that have taken place have given the shopping centre a new life.

The introduction of new shops and a new food court have made this Centre one to visit. Shops vary from Target, Jb hifi, David jones as well as other speciality stores. The dining options have also expanded with Grill'd, Max Brenner and McDonalds to just name a few.

The only negative would be parking, although there is a lot of parking the cost can quickly add up and a free option is not available like other major shopping centres. The offer of free parking for a few hours on a weekend works well but in my opinion is still not enough.

Once starting to feel old and run down this is becoming a new hub for shopping in the Illawarra.

While there is nothing remarkable about this centre, it is quite pleasant to visit and enjoyable to just wander around. Good selection of specialty shops as well as the usual majors. The big standout for us was the selection of food outlets. Worth the effort to visit if you are in the area.

Vanessa Beauty and Nail for a pedicure. Clean, polite and attentive service. Quay Canteen for yummo and healthy Vietnamese lunch. Baguettes great and so is coffee

A first visit to Wollongong has sobering findings, uncultured, unsafe, ugly, and a maze of roads Even the beaches are hidden and only can be seen if you drive out of town accommodation with sea views yeh good luck with that one. The centre of town is ugly and confusing to the visitor. Head way further south it’s much nicer.

Recently in Wollongong for a funeral, staying at Best Western-W'gong Golf Club (fab). Walked from lower Crown St into mall to have breakfast. What an absolute wasteland! 8am & only a few cafes open in lower Crown St & these looked grubby & old. Many (too many) shops/offices for lease in this grey part of town. Had a decent coffee on cnr Church & Crown Sts. Watched homeless picking up cig butts, one asked for money. Little foot traffic, not even workers going to their workplace! Where are they at 8:30am? Wandered back to hotel & still no-one about. Walked through arcade between IPAC to Burelli St (Hayton Arcade). Footpaths, gutters, old, dirty, overgrown, litter. Progress aplenty near Corrimal St as building work continues for new apartment blocks. At 4:50pm (after funeral) I ventured back to see if there was more happening. Into Crown Central & new extension over Keira St. Looks nice (new centre) but even after multi-million dollar refurbishment a couple of years ago, CC is still dull with usual franchise stores. Back down Crown St & an elderly & dishevelled woman on Wesley Church brick wall is asking me for $2 for a meal. Next to her is a pack of cigs & lighter. Saddened to see my old city looking so tired & dirty. You have to pay to park on the streets. No wonder people are flocking to Shellharbour Sq. The free bus is a great idea & I'm happy it's still running. The cafes along Keira St (betw Market & Crown) look inviting & modern. Pleased the pink columns in Crown St Mall have gone, but where's the overall improvement? Coming? There's not even a decent pub in town.Give the Gong a miss for shopping and parking, go to 'The Square' instead.

Visited the main street of Wollongong while staying near the beach for the weekend. This was about 3 pm on a Friday, and it was dead as. Most of the shops/cafes/restaurants were shut, and many shop spaces were sitting empty with a ‘For Lease’ on the window. It’s a pattern seen elsewhere, tragically: small businesses being decimated by big shopping centres.

There was an outdoor market along the main stretch but they were packing up when we got there. But why have a market on a Friday?

Very average chopping centre, you may find most of the things you need but Shellharbour Square has a lot more variety. Oh and parking doesn't come cheap either. Considering Shellharbour Square and Bondi Junction Westfield all have free parking I'm unsure why Wollongong's parking rates are so steep. If Sydney can afford to do it then I'm sure Wollongong can!

If you are driving, forget it. Trying to find a park during office hours or on the weekend is a joke. The parking is terrible and if you have an aged person then you have no hope. Once you get there, there is very little ambience as there are pretty much three zones that really are to large for the numbers received.
Shellharbour, Miranda or Macarthur centre are all much better options for layout, parking and variety.

Can't imagine why you would visit Wollongong and make this part of your itinerary. So much more to do in the area. Maybe an excuse if a wet day but it is not a tourist attraction on any criteria.
