Located in the heart of Wollongong's Arts Precinct, Illawarra Performing Arts Centre (IPAC) is the region's most loved and respected venue for the performing arts. Comprising three versatile spaces, it plays host to a variety of events, from internationally renowned theatre, music, dance, comedy and children's programming, as well as a wide range of community events.

Merrigong Theatre Company is the venue manager of IPAC and a vibrant regional theatre company in its own right - producing, presenting and touring exciting contemporary theatre and supporting the development of a wide range of theatre-makers and local independent artists.

The name Merrigong, found in early accounts of European exploration of the Illawarra, is thought to be a derivation of the indigenous word for the region's distinctive escarpment.

This is a theatre that hosts live theatre and gets shows that do play in the Sydney theatres so it is great for the Illawarra to have its own performing arts centre. It is conveniently located in the restaurant area but there is a restaurant in the theatre precinct itself with a bar.

IPAC is a great asset to Wollongong as a performing arts venue. There are two theatres and a couple of bars. Good vision from all the seats in both theatres. The Bruce Gordon is a particularly intimate theatre. They have a restaurant at the theatre which is good but not great. They really could do a set price pre-dinner theatre... More

Great coffee and great food at an excellent price. Only downside was the limited seating inside. Plenty of seating outside but due to the bad weather couldn't be used.

I love coming to the IPAC. I've never been disappointed by a performance that I've seen here. They offer a wide variety of shows and have a restaurant/ lounge area for pre or post theatre drinks or snacks. The tickets are a bit expensive but it's always a great experience.

Seen lots of shows here and all seats provide good views of the stage. No bad seat in the house! Great local facility right up there with the best in Sydney but with much closer seating.

Comfortable medium sized theatre with a good selection of shows. We love the easy parking (council carpark has no charge in the evenings). Also some terrific restaurants in walking distance making pre-dinner options easy. The service is friendly and efficient - even when we have had to alter our dates on occasion. Well done top IPAC.

Quite an intimate sized venue with consistent interesting and quality entertainment. I sometimes feel though it isn't utilised enough.

It's great the number and variety of shows and artists that we get to see perform in Wollongong these days instead of making a journey to Sydney or Western Sydney. If a particular show is on in Wollongong I am always thrilled when it is on at IPAC (Illawarra Performing Arts Centre). I have enjoyed many solo artists, bands and... More

This place is a gem. It always has great productions on - often ones that you could pay a lot more to see in one of the capital cities. It also has local performances and has a producing arm which creates new productions. There is a very good cafe and bar. The staff are friendly. The main venue has some... More
