My wife and I, being locals, went in for a cup of coffee. It was always on the expensive side but, since we are locals, the 10 percent locals’ discount made it affordable. On ordering and mentioning that we were locals, I was immediately put in my place. “No locals’ discount since Covid.” Mmmmmmmm. I saw another customer getting a 10 percent discount.

It’s been a few years since I’ve visited the shop and the quality of cheese is not very good anymore. The cheese we purchased didn’t taste fresh. Then the packet of olives we got were meant to be feta but we kept getting garlic ones. I feel the shop has been commercialised and lost it’s boutique charm and quality unfortunately.

This place is an aladdins cave of goodies, the triple brei cheese is devine and the caramalized onion cheese is yum. We also had the gelato which was some of the best of have had anywhere in the world. Also go to the chocolate and fudge factory just along the road the chocolate is wonderful highly recommend a visit.

Great shop with so much variety, also they have a coffee shop and gelato too.
We had a cheese tasting session with Will and he is great and intoduced us to some amazing cheeses we had never tried before and he is very knowledgeable about the products and gave us great recommendations.
A must purchase is Labna with Dukkah

We have been here every visit to the hunter and I dont like writing negative reviews unless warranted and l think this is.

We bought a number of different cheeses, biscuits, leaves, chocolates and other things, around $90.00 spent for two of us, not complaining about the price at all, what we were disappointed with, was that the items we bought, hardly anything was from the hunter and the only thing marked Made in Australia was the cheese and the leaves, everything else was imported.

In the past it has been good to buy local products, Im sure they are there somewhere, would much rather local, otherwise may as well go to Woolworths.

By the way, the staff were great.

Our visit was mid afternoon - the shop was quiet - staff appeared disinterested in serving us and seemed already preoccupied cleaning up for end of day close. Shelves and fridges were fully stocked with local produce which looked fabulous. We purchased a few items and would have spent more money had we been made to feel welcome and not in the way! Disappointing but will try their other outlet when next in the valley.

Our second overnight stay in the Hunter Valley and this time we decided to try all the other cheese and dairy places around Pokolbin. The Smelly cheese shop definitely has the absolute best selection and range and this is where we came back to. Staff are knowledgeable however hard to get the attention of as it was an extremely busy day. The black marinated olives a just delicious and are so moorish. The triple cream Brie is our favorite!

Fabulous little shop with some amazing cheeses & other delicious nibblies. We stopped in for a quick browse, planning to come back the next day to pick up some goodies but, after tasting a few cheeses & seeing the beautiful freshly baked French bread on display, walked out with a cheese platter, bread & assorted other goodies.
The ladies helping us out were so lovely & pointed us to the best products. If you love cheese, this place is a must visit. Heaven!!!

So much choice!
Jams, spreads, cheese and other products. Great choice for every palate. Some very interesting hot sauces ( which I am always on a lookout for). Hot lunches with many choices.
The shop assistant who served us could’ve been a bit friendlier.. all others were great.
Definitely worth a visit when you are in the vicinity.
