Fantastic zoo , it's like we are in the wild ! Loved it ! We chose to walk because it's only about 5 Klms but too many inexperienced families on push bikes causing havoc and Too many cars , buses and carts going over the speed limit and having trouble when parking and reversing so made it a bit dangerous... We are very much zoo fans and so far Western Plains zoo is near the top of our lists of favourites. With exhibits which provide a sense of being next to the animals, coupled with the option to walk, drive, ride a bike or hire a golf cart to travel around the zoo is pretty much accessible to all.

Not far from the town you really need to take your own car or use an electric jeep available on hire. The animals are housed in open plan areas and you are generally unaware of the fences that keep you safe. A good range of animals on display. The Australian marsupials (plus one lonely emu) are displayed in a rather... More

This was our second trip to the zoo, first visit about 20 years ago. Found the entrance a bit confusing with all the signs and also the exit (and no we are not in our 60's or more). The layout of the zoo is great, good parking if you are taking your care around the circuit. Would like to see... More

This is a nice zoo but don't expect a wide range of animals but still a nice day out and I recommend the best way to see it is by push bike it is a good ride around the zoo and none of the animals are in cages .. You can hire bikes or even bring your own bikes.. And... More

We hired a cart to get around and it was money well spent. Lots of improvements since we were here 20 years ago. Bonus to see Galapagos tortoises inside enclosure keeping warm and the baby's from their successful breeding program . Staff all friendly. Great coffee and food in the cafe. We even saw the hippos getting their teeth filed.... More

This is our first visit to the zoo and definitely won't be the last. Love to come back and do an overnight stay in the Billabong Camp. The animals are beautiful & look very happy & peaceful in their spacious & well maintained enclosures. Loved the giraffes, the meerkats & the elephants.

As zoos go this one is pretty good. We arrived on a really cold winter afternoon and there wasn't much going on. However as we had arranged to stay overnight and the ticket was valid for two days we came back the next morning at it was a lot more lively. Unfortunately the lions were not on display (due to... Our family went to the Zoo in June 2016 (wouldn't let me put an earlier date then Aug 15) and it was well worth the money and trip down. I was told to go in the cooler months in the school holidays. We rode out bikes through the first 1/2 day on arrival and returned the follows day. We hired... More
