The little walk up to the viewpoint was lovely! Suitable for all fitness levels with some excellent spots for photos! When actually viewing the seals they blended into the rocks so it was a little hard seeing them and there weren't as many around as what you are blessed with in other Nz hot spots! Having said that...for someone who... More

Great very easy coastal walk. Take your camera and spend some time spotting seals in amongst the rocks. Take your rain coat, the weather chops and changes. Great views of scary looking sea rocks. Nice info panels along the way.

It's only a short walk from the car park to see this colony. On the day I was there we got to see some young seals with their mothers.

I was here in April with an American friend and was keen to revisit when there were babies. I wasn't disappointed. It is a lovely place for all to visit, there are informative boards giving attractively presented information about all wildlife. It's an easy walk for all and there is a great viewing platform to view the seals. I was... More

A gentle walk on an accessable path from the car park to a viewing area overlooking the rocks and seals.

The seal colony was well marked and easy to find at Tauranga Bay. It’s a well recognized area to see seals but on the day we went we were unlucky to see any as the stormy weather, wind and cloudy conditions made it impossible from the Cape Foulwind Lookout. The viewing platform for the seal colony is 15 min from... More

One could stand for hours at the seal watching platform...fascinating rituals amongst these endearing ( from the distance at any rate) creatures. Kudos to DOC for maintaining such excellent facilities, pathways, clean toilets...even rubbish removal because a few filthos have to drop their tissues or worse alongside the paths and parking areas. What a great job DOC carries out making... More

We were staying at a holiday rental on Carters Beach and had some very wet and windy weather as we arrived, so put off the walk until next morning and were rewarded with much nicer conditions. One of our party dropped us off at one end of the walk near the lighthouse and we strolled along the winding, undulating track... More
