Gertrude saddle is a medium hike but its really worth it, there is an amazing view from the saddle, you can see 360 degrees view into the fiord and back to the mountains,

Incredible breathtaking views from the saddle. We had a guide who added to our experience with great knowledge and pointing out things we might have missed.

East few hours return, this track offers the best view, even in a cloudy day. Did it twice: one in a rainy day and one in a clear day. The views are amazing!

The views were fantastic up there. It is a bit hard, but for us it took only 2 hours to get up in to the saddle. Do this only with a good weather.

Wonderful hike in the Fjordlands. Park near Homer Hut and start hiking - up the valley and then up the mountain. The hike goes off the trail quickly (though there are tracks you can follow in the summer). Above Black Lake, steel cables provide some protection but aren't necessary if the Rock is dry. The views at the top are... More

If you only have one day to hike in Fiordland, A) That's really a shame, and B) You should do Gertrude Saddle. The views from the top rival or even surpass those of the Routeburn and Kepler Tracks (I haven't done the Milford or Dusky, so I can't say about those), but unlike those Great Walks, you can do Gertrude... Nice views just off the road, clouds hanging from cliffs--great for photo-buffs...not too hard to get off the trail--look for the trail-marking posts, don't just follow what looks like a trail--I made that mistake and ended up doing some bushwhacking (not appreciated by my wife)

This is a nice track through a short valley into a gradual climb near spectacular water fall. Cloudy on the top/saddle, but well worth the time and effort.

Fabulous views, a little treacherous as the snow was melting , but the waterfalls and Black ;lake were fantastic even small ice bergs in the stream. Recommend taking walking poles and plenty of sun protection
