It was very refreshing to see. We took a boat ride with "Real Journey", then a bus ride to the port in Milford, and we stayed on a boat. Activities included fishing, kayaking, swimming, visiting lots and lots of waterfalls!, looking for seals, dolphins, penguins (we got lucky!), and our tour guide/chef diving for lobsters! The views are beyond amazing,... More

My wife and i wanted to do both Milford and Doubtful since both of them are well known. Both of them also do an overnight cruise so we were torn since we could only do one Talking to locals and doing more research online, we concluded Doubtful sound was the one for overnight cruise. Visiting both, we would agree if... More

Beautiful part of the world. Was a bit windy the day I went out but that did not detract from the scenery in anyway. Was lucky enough to do the lake with new found friends so it added a bit more local colour to the adventure.

That's what Doubtful Sound all about. Unlike Milford which is easily accessible and takes 2 hours or less (Scenic Cruise), Doubtful (Wilderness Cruise) involved first boating on Lake Manapouri followed by coach driving across Wilmot Pass before boarding the 3 hour cruise on Sound/Fjord. It took the whole day, 7 - 8 hours at AU$230/p vs. Milford of AU$74/p with... More

We were very lucky with the weather as it was raining in Te Anua but the trip which was only a few miles away was generally a dry, sunny day which enhanced the spectacular views. Started off on a 30 minute boat trip across Lake Manapouri to a hydro power station, we then boarded a coach wich travelled over the... More

We went to manapouri to take the tour. Collect the food that we order since it was gonna be a long trip. Took cruise to the island and change to bus (30 min drive) and took the real doubtful sound cruise. Got to see beautiful fiords and see. Stop a couple times to enjoy the beauty of nature, feel the... A great trip at a beautiful sunny winter day. Saw a bunch of rainbows and waterfalls, lovely seals, (didn't see the penguins, pity) and the stunning, stunning sound. Reminded me of the MOVIES.

It's a bona-fide bucket list experience! If you have any second thoughts about taking this trip, dismiss them immediately. From the time you are met at Manapouri, taken upon a trip of a lifetime and then returned to Manpouri the next day, you will have experienced sensory overload. I knew it would be a great trip, but the whole management,... More

Originally we were "doubtful" where we should visit Doubtful Sound because we heard that the flies can be annoying. However, we changed our plan to visit Doubtful Sound and were really glad we did. Below is my journal for that day. "Up early to Pearl harbor to take the boat across lake Manapouri , the 3rd biggest lake in NZ... More

Truly beautiful, I believe more stunning than Milford Sound. The trip is an adventure in itself. Bus, Boat,Bus & Boat, the ever changing scenery is spell binding. Of course it is a long day but worth every minute. Informative guides and courteous staff make for a wonderful day.
