Surreal and stunning. We got lucky with the weather, and played with huge bottleneck dolphins twice, once right by and under our kayaks in Blanket Bay. Swam in front of the waterfall, enjoyed fresh fish and crayfish and mussels. MUST DO. (one night is enough:)

Stayed overnight at the Southern Secret. First a boatride to the the other side of the lake, then a busride across the pass. Then board the Southern Secret, a 12 person ship. We had only 8 passengers, so there was plenty of room. Great lunch with plenty of fresh crawfish! Afterwards we did some fishing, caught several blue cods, we... More

Again what another breathtaking experiance, water was a bit choppy and we needed an escort but the scale of the cliffs and big birds was amazing

Our group of 5 went there for a kayak trip. The sound was very remote and beautiful indeed. Not many boats there. The view was very impressive. Highly recommended before tourists flood in.

Lake Manapouri is an easy drive from Te Anau where you board the boat which will take you across the lake. From here, a bus takes you over the tortuous Wilmot Pass to give you your first glimpse of Doubtful Sound. Your cruise boat then takes you on a remarkable trip to places only accessible by boat. The trip takes... More

Skipper Clint and first mate, Kiersten, gave us memories to last a lifetime. Fantastic sceneries, great fishing, fabulous food and a classical piano concert afterwards.. The accommodations were excellent. Choose Southern Secret as your boat and you will not be disappointed!

We revisited Doubtful Sound 10 years after our first visit with the same company "Real Journeys", who were amazing last time and certainly didn't disappoint this time. We were staying in Te Anau, picked up from our hotel and returned to our hotel - about nine hours of fun, education, wonder and amazement. This must be one of the most... More

A fantastic overnight trip with a great company. We left Manapouri at 9.00am and took the ferry across Lake Manapouri, up and over the pass and down to Doubtful Sound. We went overnight on a 24 hour trip with Fiordland Expeditions, and it was fantastic. Heading off up the Sound with a glass of bubbles, then a tasty lunch of... More

Easy booking. Excellent pre trip communication from Di. We met the rest of our group as instructed at 930 ready for the 10am crossing of Lake Manapouri. We were a group of 10. Mixed ages and nationalities. After a stunning crossing of the lake (with other tour group members from different companies) We were met by Chris. He loaded our... More

Doubtful Sound is three times bigger than Milford Sound, is less busy and commercialised and a more interesting journey to get to. Go Orange served us well as a tour company.
