Enjoy the 17 Celsius degree wzter(February). Quite fresh? After a great walk (we were coming back from Kepler track) I can assure you it was a pleasant moment! Beach was clean, few people, no noise, and the water so clear I saw people drink of it (I'm not giving an advice, just telling what I saw). We enjoyed this refreshing... More

Lake Te Anau is in a lovely setting. The town is small but with plenty of amenities, including supermarkets, restaurants and cafes and accommodation but is really only the gateway to Milford Sound and surrounding areas.

We can confirm much of the excellent reporting on this Lake, it's beautiful, even on a misty December day. Diverse scenery, trips on boats, walks, drives and some nice eating places in town. Don't miss the free cinema with "Ata Whenua".........info. on the Fiordland World Heritage site; only a 30 min film but great to watch and screens many times... More

I love Te Anau, to go on the GREAT Walks, visit the glow worms, see Doubtful Sound, Milford Sound, go fishing, boating, or just feed the ducks at the lake edge.

A picture perfect lake, surrounded by mountains meadows and forests. Te Anau township is small but well-endowed with motels, restaurants and supermarkets etc. The information centre at the south end of the lake is very interesting and a good place to get information on walks, tours etc, and there are numerous walks that can be taken around the lake's perimeter.... We stayed at a hotel overlooking Lake Te Anau and its beautiful crystal blue waters. We used Te Anau as a base for Milford Sound but also spent a day trekking around the lake itself. Te Anau is the first section of the Keplar Trail and we planned on doing a four hour section. However, it was Christmas Day, the... More
