The Museum deals with the settlers on the island and their histories - with good exhibits of marine life. We had heard of the rare and precious ambergris ( from whale's stomachs) found on some bays and there were specimens on display.

Probably the best $2 you'll spend on the island. It's not very big but has some interesting historical photos and artifacts on early island life. Good for a couple hour visit.

Was left wanting a bit more detail about displays and items. Was more of a collection of items than detailed history of the Island. A bit ho hum really.

The Rakiura Museum is worth a visit so that you can get an idea of the history of this small island. It's inexpensive and won't take you long to look around its 2 main rooms with exhibits. It takes you from the early 19th century...More
