The Bunkhouse Theatre shows a quirky 40minute film about Stewart Island,...

The Bunkhouse Theatre shows a quirky 40minute film about Stewart Island, titled A LOCAL'S TAIL. A Local's Tail introduces local characters, community colour, and the struggles and triumphs of the island pioneers, both past and present. Producers, Pete Davis and Penny Golias, hope to answer the myriad of questions that holiday makers have about the 'why' and 'how' of Stewart Island, from the most reliable of all sources - the pub (or more accurately, from the yarns overheard at the pub by a local dog). The film shows everyday throughout the summer. See the board outside for daily session times.

Me and my partner turned up we were the only 2 there. This was a average movie and thought it could be a lot better. I was disappointed with the way that it was done for the money we paid ($20) hopefully this goes towards the island in some way. Great concept but needs to be better.

The film it is a nice, funny and interesting way to know a bit more about that magical place named Stewart Island... Special if the weather is holding you to do some activities out there. It will cost you only $10 for 40 minute film and the Bunkhouse Theatre is very conf.

Amazing. Expected a very basic theatre, but found one that easily matched the smaller theatres found in Auckland's "art-house" cinemas. Very pleasant experience. Manageress very helpful and willing to talk about theatre. A visit to Stewart Island would not be complete without attending the Bunkhouse Theatre!

Not exactly Academy award material here, but amusing enough way to learn a little of island history and ( strange) customs. Ps Lola the star appeared quite unimpressed about being made to behave for visitors and would have been better off outside chasing something

'A locals tail' is a 40 minute film illustrating the history of Stewart Island in quite a quirky way. A fun way to fill part of an afternoon and a really positive illustration of the strong community spirit that exists on the island. It is shown in a local independent cinema and is a great way to contribute towards keeping... More

Very sweet and informative, I just loved this funky and funny local film so much I clapped at the end. I am glad to have seen it early on in my 5 day stay so I knew more about the history of the island as I visited the sites. Also, I was expecting a folding chair type place, but no,... More

We saw the movie and were disappointed. The theatre is cute and quirky, but some of the video quality was poor, would only recommend if you are bored and its raining.
