We had the best experience with Altitude Tours to Milford Sound! The vehicle was a luxury Mercedes with the most comfortable seats, big side windows and big glass roof. Our guide Andy made the day so enjoyable with his friendly and fun commentary, and kept us informed with the itinerary throughout the day. He sighted keas for us and stopped the vehicle so we could all get out to get photos. Free wifi and great movies on the return journey were a real bonus too.
The cruise was with Mitre Peak Cruises, and the team couldn’t have been friendlier or more enthusiastic. The boat was great in the slightly choppy sea, and was toasty warm inside after spending much of the trip out on the deck soaking in the incredible environment of Milford Sound. The skipper was brilliant and sighted dolphins, seals and Albatross both on the way out to the ocean and back again, and slowed the boat for us all to enjoy the dolphins for as long as they were around the boat. A perfect day out!

A trip to New Zealand is not complete without a visit to Milford Sound and when you choose your tour I personally suggest you to have the Milford Sound BBQ experience. My wife and I did the tour on January 21st 2020 and both the guides Chris and the team on the boat were very nice, friendly and professional. Unfortunately that day there has been an accident in the one way tunnel between Milford Sound and Queenstown, and therefore was not possible to come back with the risk to spend all the night in Milford Sound and loose our flight to Christchurch the morning after.
But the company that organized the tour decided to organize, at their cost, for our group of around 30 people (same boat but on 2 buses to go from Queenstown to Milford Sound) 2/3 small airplanes to go back to Queenstown and without any additional cost to us. Hundreds of people have been forced to spend the night in Milford Sound not having choosen the right tour organization.
Thanks again..Claudio and Simona

Thank you for taking time to leave a great review! A similar incident in the past closed the tunnel for 2 days and as we didn't want to disrupt your travel plans or risk being stranded overnight, we didn't hesitate in arranging flights out of Milford. We're really happy you enjoyed the tour with Chris and we were able to get you out of Milford in time to catch your flight! Thanks again and we hope you enjoy the rest of your time in NZ.

This is the second time I have been to Milford Sound and what a difference it was from the first trip (with another tour company).
We had Andy as our tour guide who was super friendly and had so much knowledge about the Queenstown, Milford Sounds and so much more!
The van was nice and comfy, we were provided with complimentary water with the option to add a picnic lunch.
It was a nice small group, which made it much more enjoyable than being in a full bus.
I really do recommend Altitude Tours and will definitely use them next time I am in Queenstown for other tours :)

We were going to fly into Milford Sounds but the weather wasn’t suitable so we booked this trip instead. It was a fabulous alternative. The van was very comfortable and Andy our driver was knowledgeable and personable. He made the long trip in very interesting and gave us lots of opportunities for short stops. The boat trip was also very well managed and enjoyable. We really recommend this tour.

Milford Sound is simply stunning .
Roland our driver and guide for the trip out on the coach hit just the right notes with the number of stops and information along the way and made the 300km trip pass quickly. We were lucky enough to get a sunny blue sky day which made for a jaw dropping 2 hour boat trip
The day was perfectly capped off by the 45 minute flight back to Queenstown piloted by the engaging Liam. Just when you thought you couldn’t say wow any more…
Great trip run by very good people

Our bus driver, Andy, was great, giving us lots of information and interacting with everyone. He was an excellent, helpful guide.
The sights and boat tour at the sound (fiord) were wonderful and the waterfalls were beautiful.
We were disappointed that our return flight was canceled due to weather, but enjoyed the movies that were shown on the return bus trip. The scenery on the drive is spectacular as well.
We found the seats on the bus a little uncomfortable and appreciated the stops en route.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for your kind words about our guide Andy. The weather in Milford is very changeable throughout the year, which can disrupt flights from time to time, and we are sorry to hear that this put a dampener on your experience. Thank you for your feedback about the seats. We try to do our best to make sure our customers are happy and comfortable on our tours, so we appreciate your feedback. If you feel like it is necessary to share more on this, you are welcome to contact us with your travel date and name, so we can trace back to which van you were on and assess any issues here. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in New Zealand. Thank you for choosing to travel with Altitude Tours to Milford Sound.

Best trip ever. Pam, our tour guide, not only drove masterfully during a huge storm, she was born here so has great stories and knowledge about everything Mew Zealand. We spent 12 hours on the tour and never a dull moment. She had umbrellas, lunch, bug spray, water and anything we could possibly need. Even ended with a great movie while driving Milford Sound was a must see. We were lucky to catch it in a storm and had thousands of temporary waterfalls. We even saw Hector dolphins which are extremely rare. The walks and boat ride were outstanding. This is a must tour for anyone coming to Queenstown. Thank you Pam for a once in a lifetime experience!!

We took this tour on the 9th of Jan. The weather was perfect and we really enjoyed our trip and the spectacular views. Our guide Erik was fantastic and supplied us with a wealth of interesting information along the way. We made a few stops to see breathtaking views and even performed a little Maori ritual on a shore of a beautiful lake! Erik made sure everyone had an enjoyable and problem-free experience and was an absolute pleasure to deal with.
This was without a doubt, one of our best experiences in Queenstown. Thank you Erik from all our family!

This is a really. Long. Great. Tour. If you have a toddler, rent your own car, control your own destiny, and let the rest of us enjoy the wonderful day. My five year old, for example, had a fun time. The folks from the States who were clearly lying about how much their screaming 18 mos. old loved the long journey to New Zealand should have known that if your kid needs a car seat, it’s the wrong activity for you.
That being said, our driver handled the situation with incredible grace. He was informative, talked a great deal about the amazing flora, fauna, and geology, and clearly had a love for the area. He could answer our many questions. It was nice to have multiple stops in the National Park to both stretch our legs and get some fantastic photographs. Our guide was helpful in spotting wildlife. Arriving at the port for the boat, we got great reserved seats and a tasty lunch. There was some sort of food for everyone, and extras for purchase.
The sound was not rough, and we were only in the sea for a few minutes. The views are incredible as you’d expect. Wisely on the drive back, our guide popped in both a really interesting documentary and an appropriate movie. Wi-Fi was incredibly helpful for my three children to tolerate almost hours of driving. There is a nice stop at a café with plenty of food options and bathrooms. If you can’t make it two hours without a bathroom, reconsider. Overall we found it to be one of the more informative, scenic tours we have taken in New Zealand.

We had a comfortable and awe inspiring journey. Chelsea, our guide, was very informative and made us feel very welcome to the place. We can really sense the passion that she has for the place. I highly recommend this tour and will be looking forward to experience it again on a rainy season.

So wonderful hearing all the lovely comments you have for Chelsea, she is definitely passionate about the local area. We would love to host you next time you're in Queenstown, there will definitely be an opportunity to see Milford Sound in the rain, as it's the wettest place in NZ. Thanks for the review.
