- Peter CSeattle, Washington237 contributionsHappy group of sixFirst time ebike riders for half our group and only second time for the rest. The staff did a great job of quickly getting us out on the road and making sure we understood how things worked. All bikes performed perfectly. Queens town does not a a great deal of flat trails so a half day will pretty much cover it all even with a lunch stop. Easy drop off return at the end of the day and the price was fair for Queenstown. We had quite a variety of fitness levels and those that were less fit enjoyed the bikes even more as they could keep up any pace that was going on. If you have good weather this activity is really enjoyable around the lake.Visited February 2020Written March 9, 2020
- DianeWisconsin3 contributionsJust what we were looking for. While on an organized tour, we we’re looking for something active to do in Queenstown. Stopped into Green Toad and in 10 minutes we were on good quality mountain bikes at $19/2 hours (really gave us 2.5 hours) with directions to a very nice bike/walking trail where we enjoyed 17 miles along Lake Whakatipu. Highly recommend!Visited March 2023Traveled with friendsWritten February 28, 2023

I hired a bike and the brakes failed about 4 km from the shop. When I returned the man in the store wasn't interested in my complaint and was downright rude. Zero customer service and totally dismissive of my complaint and that I had to walk back. Obviously not happy to be there.

It was very late in the day and we just popped in to see where we could go "play" in the snow - such helpful staff to snow novices! Everyone decked out and off to taboggan we go for under $100NZ.

We found the customer service great. The $19 rental for 2 hours was perfect to travel out to the Boat Shed Cafe and get back; whereas most bike hires in Queenstown ask at least half a day. The bikes were well serviced and quality. My giant was better and lighter than the ones I have at home. Easy walk, cycle down to the path for around the lake. Presumably they also cater to the more adventurous, but for my wife and I who are in our 60's this was perfect. We also left some stuff in the store to come back to. There is free parking one street away or a reasonably priced carpark. Will use Green Toad next time we hire cycles in Queenstown.

We actually used Green Toad in Wanaka, but same write up. Knowledgable and friendly team, quality equipment and the best value in town.
Highly recommended.

We hired 4 bikes here and it was a super easy process. The staff make sure everything is working nicely before they send you in your way and provided some local tips on where to stop for a coffee.

My brother in law and Nephew and me walked in off the street as it was the 1st hire place near to us. We were greeted by a pair of friendly staff and quizzed on what we wanted and what level of experience we had on the slopes. One beginner and two intermediate snow boarders. The staff fitted us out and even gave us older two some fashion tips which was great! The gear is well used but for our one day I walked out with a helmet, googles, gloves, jacket and pants as well as a board and boots for $61 NZ! Bargain plus. Friendly and cheap.

It took me awhile to find Snow blades ( smaller and shorter then regular skis), if you have no tried them, give them a go and ask in the shop.
The Prices here are great and reasonable, the gear is in great shape, and the service is fast even on crazy busy days.
They are efficient, and provide great service.
My Preferred Rental gear due to the availability of the snow blades.
Definitely a returning customer :)
Well done I say ....Well done.
Location is handy to drop off and not too crazy traffic in the area, away from all the bus insanity anyway ha ha

We rented ski gear from Green Toad twice- great friendly team who helped us both times. Shop assistant Sarah was fantastic- thanks heaps. It was great being able to pick up gear from shop, walk short 20m to bus stop to get to mountain and then able to leave gear overnight. Kids were all fitted out with gear that suited their needs. Prices and advice from staff was great.

Wonderful staff! The gear was great. It was also good to be able to store the stuff overnight there as we didnt want to lugg it around. Was one of the most affordable places i looked at. Also good that they are next to the pick up point for the ski bus. Would recc them to my friends and family.

We went to Queenstown in mid-August 2016 for a 5-day ski trip. We did a bit of research on the different hire gear operators, and were recommended Green Toad by some old friends that live in Queenstown.
They're the most competitive on price by far (~half the price of the next best quote), and offered a group discount to us as well - we had 6 people needing hire gear.
On the day we arrived we went in to pick up our gear (snowboard for me, skis & poles for my wife), and were greeted by friendly staff. The service was quick and efficient, and we were in and out within 10 minutes.
The gear itself was great - I had a Drake League 158 wide board, and my wife had Fischer skis with Leki poles. The gear performed really well, never had any issues with catching any edges, and the board felt better the faster it went. Good all-mountain fun for sure. The skis were good too, wife had no issues with them.
On the last day someone actually took my wife's skis and poles from the stand while we were having lunch. Extremely disappointing, and we were worried about having to pay for replacements. When we went to drop the gear off they were super chilled about it - apparently it's pretty common and the ski's will turn up in due course! Didn't have to pay at all, which we were super stoked about!
All in all a fantastic experience, would highly recommend these guys and we'll definitely use them again next time we're over there for some snow.
