A truly remarkable experience onboard Nikita. Lake Wakatipu is a stunning part of the world and the fishing experience was remarkable. Simon is an experienced fisherman and runs the locally owned family business. The fishing gear is all set to go. Simon knows the lake and surrounding area well and spent time explaining the movement of the fish. I caught a beautiful rainbow salmon so it was an extra special day. I highly recommend this experience to all.

None of us has much experience in lake fishing. But apparently Simon was very experienced and was equipped with all the gears. He brought us to some good spots and we ended up with one brown trout and one rainbow trout after a half-day fishing trip. These trouts are the best that we have ever had, especially because of their freshness. Later of the week when we tour other parts of the South Island, we found that Simon was well known around the area and had very good reputation.

The fishing trip itself was very enjoyable; Trevor was our skipper & three persons fished lake Wakatipu for 3 hours, one Welshman & a local couple. Although we saw many fish in shallow water they weren’t feeding in the middle of a very hot summer’s day, which is typical.
We did receive a last minute change in the pick up point; Glenorchy Warf instead of Queenstown, which was 1 hours drive away by car which could have caused problems to the three fishing persons in getting there by 13:00hrs on the day.
Although we didn’t catch any fish the skipper told us that the lake contained Brown + Rainbow Trout, and Salmon. We still had a great day and shared many fishing stories & past experiences, as well as taking in the breathtaking scenery that surrounded us.
Would definitely recommend this trip to any fishing persons, beginners or experienced.

Book at own risk.

Initially booked for departure from Queenstown with confirmation from Simon. Departure was changed to Glenorchy as Queenstown boat was under repair, which we accepted.

1 day prior, trip was cancelled as apparently both Glenorchy and Queenstown boats were not available. Completely understandable and accepted.

Given cancellation policy states "All deposits are non-refundable, unless the charter/fishing experience is cancelled by the captain/guide due to bad weather or circumstances beyond their control. This cancellation is made prior to the charter commencing on the day only at the captain’s/guide’s discretion."
It is only fair and within terms that a refund be processed since our booking was cancelled by the Captain.

However Simon and Queenstown Fishing team has ignored our repeated emails (3 follow ups within 2 weeks) on a refund, despite it well within the terms and conditions. Even if they feel a refund is not possible, completely ignoring a customer who has fully paid NZD600 for the trip is simply not acceptable. A response on their stance would have been appreciated.

It is disappointing to have experienced this. It does appear that Queenstown Fishing has good reviews and we would have loved to have experienced it too, but do book with caution and at your own risk.

Hi Jamie, We do sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate you accommodating us with the departure location change to Glenorchy. Unfortunately sometimes with boats parts fail without warning and its extremely rare we have two boats out of commission at the same time. This is the first time this has happened in the last 10 years. Your charter was refunded in full before the end of the month in which you booked, this was just 2 weeks after your charter date. We apologize for the delay on the refund but we do ask for your patience as we are short with admin (like many businesses in NZ) and with the super high demand on fishing experiences it sometimes takes till month end to sort refunds.

Just want to say a big thank you to Simon for a fantastic day on the water. It was touch and go on whether we out or not due to the weather and Simon left that to us. We decided to go and very glad we did. Simon took us all around the lake on a 4 hour trip out and my son and I managed to catch a trout each. Weather conditions were not great but Simon knew where to head and my son had a very nice 4lb rainbow trout and I had a brown trout of just over a vcouple of pounds. We used different methods to catch fish and Simon’s knowledge of the area was great. I can fully recommend this trip and the banter with Simon was second to none.

Simon was fantastic from booking to trip and finish. He had a late cancellation which meant we were the only two on the boat and he was kind enough to still run the trip for us ! He quickly found the right spots and my partner and I both managed to catch a good size trout. We had a couple of other hook ups and had a fantastic time. The scenery is amazing and it wouldn’t have mattered if we hadn’t caught anything. Can’t recommend Simon and Queenstown Fishing highly enough, you won’t regret it.

Simon is a great skipper and fishing guru in this part of the world and I would highly recommend his tours. We bagged some beautiful chinook salmon which are fun to land and delicious on the plate to boot.
A great afternoon with a true professional in a spectacular setting. All G bro.

I booked this for my parents, they had a spectacular time. They came back thrilled they had caught three chinook salmon, and had played a large rainbow trout which was plenty excitement for the 3 hour experience. Simon was always quick to respond to emails and was very helpful, and the parents said he was always moving the boat around and assessing the conditions to make sure they had good fishing! Thanks Simon for a great day.

I am a professional fisherman in Australia, to pay $295 + $35 for license for 3 hours for the First time in my life to go on a fishing charter, I am Extremally Disappointed, it ruined my expectation of a Trout fishing experience. As this is the only fish I have never caught. I should have bought a rod and reel, got a license and gone by myself; I know that is what I will do next time. If I take you fishing, you will Catch Fish. End of Story.

We were lucky enough to have the boat to ourselves and were really impressed with our 'captain' Simon - who was a font of information on all things fishing. Being born and bred in the area he was also able to talk about the geography and development of Queenstown and its environs. It's good to see people who are passionate about what they do - as their enthusiasm rubs off on others. For the record we caught 4 fish (a mix of brown and rainbow trout) - two of which got cooked that evening. A thoroughly enjoyable trip with stunning scenery.
