My husband and I were in Queenstown for four days. I'm a landscape photographer, but given our tight schedule and itinerary, I didn't have time for a multiple day photo tour. I did, however, hope to find a local photographer who could spend l/2 a day with us and show us the Glenorchy/Paradise Valley area. Being nice and accommodating is always a huge plus. We were so happy with the half-day we were able to spend with Dan. Obviously, he is a well-seasoned and well-traveled photographer who knows the area well, but he was also a super nice person to spend time as we explored this heaven on earth. Definitely worth the time! Great price too! Thank you, Dan!

I love to take photographs so there was no question in my mind to book this tour of Skippers Canyon with a photographic experience. Others in my travel group signed up for a 4WD excursion that took the same route, but had 18 people in 3 jeeps trekking up Skippers Road and it was about the same price. This was just the two of us. Blair was very personable, patient and knowledgeable. The views were absolutely breathtaking and stunning. Being able to stop whenever we wanted and spend a little extra time taking pictures in an area was a real bonus. You just can't do that in a larger tour group and I really hate trying to take pictures through a window. While I know a little about camera settings, my husband did not. Blair explained things to him in a way he can better understand and sparked his interest in taking more photos for the rest of our trip. That was another bonus! Booking this tour was a perfect choice for us.

The first tour was so good my partner and I ended up doing every tour, thats how good the experience was.
It was the highlight of our three week trip to NZ. We started with the Glenorchy/Paradise, then skippers canyon and then the Nevis valley, The scenery was fantastic, we had snow, gales, rain, mist and sun, every time Blair found great spots to capture the beautiful wild views, even if your not into photography its worth going on a tour just to see the scale of the scenery, the diversity is breath taking. MY photos are BRILLIANT, money very very well spent with a top operator, Blair was a genuine nice guy to spend a few days with, not to mention a good photographer.
A must on any trip to Queenstown, 6 star rating. Michael & Angela Perth WA

This was the most amazing day - Dan is the most patient and great guide. I was so excited to travel down into the Canyon and my older mum came along, she thoughly enjoyed the day and seeing a part of Queenstown we normally would not have been able to see.
This is a spectacular place to visit and with Dan it is amazing
The afternoon tea was great at the school house, and i was amazed at all the facts and things that Dan pointed out.
Do yourself a favour and take this tour - best day ever!

Heading out with Dan in the 4WD to Glenorchy and Rees Valley provided endless wonderful photo ops. From mountain views to rivers and waterfalls, to the mossy rocks on the road, and abandoned farm houses, this tour was an excellent day out - even for a total amateur photographer (me that is, not Dan!)

I took the Skipper's Canyon tour with Blair and his dad. This is a crazy road to an amazingly beautiful location. There is no way I would have wanted to do this without someone who knew the terrain and he knew it well. These are small group tours and he was able to do it with just me which was nice because many tours like this one require a two person minimum which can be tricky when you are traveling alone. Blair gave me plenty of time to soak in the scenery and the freedom to take my time setting up shots. It was a fun and memorable day and I got some wonderful photos of a truly spectacular location.

I had a really great time going out with Blair for the day. He provided a great balance of teaching some new techniques while also allowing me to just take time to enjoy the amazing environment around me. We drove pretty far out into the backcountry and found a lot of spots I would never have been able to see without going on the tour, which definitely makes the cost worth it. I think Queenstown Photo Tours is great for all levels of photographers, whether you're a beginner or an expert, and I would highly recommend them.

Skippers Canyon tour - the destination itself was amazing and not to be missed, seeing it on this type of tour was perfect. Due to the boutique nature of the tour it can be tailored for what you are after, guided by someone who knows the area extensively and able to give little tips on how to get the most out of the images you want to capture. It is aimed at all, those who want to appreciate the canyon, those who are novice to photography and are just after a few good shots for wall at home (me) to those who have experience and after some specific tuning of their skills (more my partner). We were provided with ample time to enjoy the scenery and able to sit back and appreciate Skippers road with someone else driving it! Fast efficient service and responses to emails, definitely recommend adding it on your list.

I really enjoyed this photographic tour. Skipper's Canyon was undoubtedly beautiful, but it was the company and the conversation that really made the day enjoyable. I was only in Queenstown for a couple of days and didn't find this photography tour until halfway through my stay. Blair responded to my very last minute email right away and I was able to book in the day before I left.

Blair was great - he was able to answer questions for people with different skill levels, as well as mixing in actual conversation so there weren't silences during the drive into and out of the canyon. It was also great that the tour was small (it was me and two others with Blair). Blair gave us tons of time to take pictures and then come give advice as needed - I didn't feel rushed or wished I took 'one more picture' at any location we stopped at. I got some great tips about macro photography as well as a refresher on camera settings.

All in all, it was a great morning (it helped that the weather was great as well!)

Thanks for a great experience and showing me a part of Queenstown that I probably would not have gotten to see on my own. Highly recommend if you interested in learning how to use your camera (whether DSLR or even just a point and shoot better).

We were very fortunate to go on a private tour through the Skippers Canyon where Dan gave us many historical facts and anecdotal accounts of the hardship endured by the gold miners. Our tour started in the morning where the low lying clouds provided an amazing back drop for photos taken and as the sun rose, the landscape changed. Coffee and Whittakers chocolates were great!
