Air Milford is a family owned and operated business based in Queenstown, New Zealand, specialising in personalised sightseeing excursions for visitors who want to experience the very best tours of Queenstown and the South Island of New Zealand. Air Milford purposefully remains a mid-size New Zealand tourism business. This allows the company to stay committed and focused on offering its guests exclusive, niche sightseeing tours of the Queenstown, Fiordland and South Island regions. Air Milford is a tour company - not a transport company. The Air Milford team have an intimate knowledge of the scenic wonders of Fiordland, Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Mount Cook and the Queenstown region. The 'hands on' tours take in magnificent fiords, New Zealand native forests and glaciers. Guests will be introduced to New Zealand's stunning native birds, seals, penguins and dolphins. Our modern aircraft are meticulously maintained and we are proud to have achieved one of the Civil Aviation Authority's (CAA) highest audit ratings for operations and safety.

Absolutely fantastic days trip. Well worth the extra to fly in and out rather than 4 hr coach journey from Queenstown to Milford. Stupendous views over the mountains. Friendly and efficient staff. Handsome and fun knowledgeable pilot James made it a great trip. The cruise was terrific, beautiful scenery and great laugh getting wet under the waterfalls. Thankyou Air Milford... More

This was our second trip to Milford. The first was 20+ years ago when we drove into the cruise launch area. Going by plane was so much better! We did the fly/cruise/fly on a clear day with Antony as our pilot. The whole Air Milford team was so professional, so efficient, that it made the entire experience, from booking to... More

Weather conditions dictated that we utilize the wet weather option provided to Milford Sound. Plane, bus, cruise, bus, plane - in better weather the bus journey isn't required but I felt this actually worked really well in terms of seeing so much of the landscape approaching Milford Sound at close quarters after enjoying the beauty of the surrounding mountains and... Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your fantastic review of your wet weather excursion with Air Milford! I wholeheartedly agree that this trip is a great way to take in all of the amazing sights of the Southern Alps and Fiordland by different modes of transport. Even though it is our plan B option, (plan A is always to fly... More

Even though the weather was bad and we could not fly directly to Milford Sound we still still had our 30 minute light plane trip but instead it was to Te Aneau Downs followed by a 90 minute bus trip to Milford. Both the pilot of the plane and our bus driver were exemplary, providing us with a tonne of... More

Hi Di, Thank you for your excellent review of your excursion with Air Milford. This summer, the weather has been unseasonally bad for the time of year and we have found ourselves unable to fly directly into Milford for days at a time. When this happens, we may be able to run our wet weather option if the weather is... More

Our travel agent who helped us plan our New Zealand trip booked us with Air Milford so that we could experience Milford Sound, a must see when visiting this area. The plane trip would save us hours of driving. We had to reschedule the day we were booked as the weather was bad, and luckily it was a beautiful day.... More

Hi Debbie, Thank you for your review of your experience with Air Milford. It is great to receive such wonderful feedback especially from fellow aviators! We have had such a lot of unseasonally bad weather this January so I am glad that we were able to reschedule your booking and fly you out to Milford. We always recommend booking on... More

We did the fly cruise fly to Milford Sound. The flights were the highlight, albeit a bit bumpy ( probs due to the 5 of us in our own little Cessna). Our pilot, Alex, was professional and very friendly. Yes, it was a splurge, but worth every cent! Be aware, this , like helo rides, are very weather dependant and... More

Hi Jonathan, Thank you for your excellent review of your excursion with Air Milford. As you have correctly noted, flying into Milford is weather dependent for planes and helicopters alike! Fiordland National Park is one of the wettest places in the world, receiving around 8 meters of rainfall per year, compared to Queenstown, which only receives around 1 meter per... More

We were on a coach tour, and the coach brought us to Milford Sound from Christchurch. We paid about $200 each for a direct flight from Milford Sound back to Queenstown in the mid-afternoon in a Cessna Caravan 14-seater. The pilot did not circle around at either Milford Sound or Queenstown so those of us on the right side of... More

Did the MIlford Sound trip in Dec 2016. Brand new plane which didn't require headphones for noise and had great leather seats. Friendly all around. Also did the fly/helicopter/glacier hike in Dec 2016 with another vendor who was good but not as polished (with an older plane) as Air Milford. You get reserved seats on the boat tour, etc. Great!

The views from the plane are simply stunning. I don't think you'd get the same perspective if you took a bus ride to Milford Sound. The scenic cruise through the sound was spectacular.

We took a 14 seat plane into Milford Sound from Queenstown. The ride was very bumpy and a little nauseating, but the views were well worth it. Even though our pilot says we were a good 500 meters away, it looked like we were close enough to reach out and touch the mountains. The scenery was simply stunning on the... More
