- Emma9 contributionsHad SO much fun!Have had five amazing days at Coronet Peak over the last few weeks. Transport: Ski bus - highly recommend. Super easy and cheap for people not comfortable driving. No worries about having to get up before car parks reach capacity (particularly in Level 2). Drivers were all friendly and very helpful! Rentals: Super efficient and quick, (though we were in early before the school groups arrived!). Good quality gear, boots very comfortable. Really helpful to use the overnight storage for the consecutive days. Cafe: very well run in level 2, good options available and still lots of places to sit outside (we were there on really sunny days so that helped!). Price of food does add up, option is there to bring your own and hire a locker for $10 a day! Mountain: Just so much fun. Chairlift crews were chatty and friendly, nice to see the medical team out and about helping people. Our third day was quite icy to start with but can't be help.. just made me learn rather quickly how to not freak out each time! Queues were absolutely minimal despite level 2. Really appreciate you guys filling the chairlifts if people wore face coverings. Sadly as we had such warm days not many had buffs on, but it really wasn't too packed. No complaints what so ever.Kia ora Emma Thanks for your review, really enjoyed reading it. Perfect fuel to pass on to the staff who really have had a year of it and as we come to the end reading this is a boost. I hope the rest of your holiday in Queenstown was as good and look forward to seeing you again. - Darren_MelbAUSMelbourne, Australia37 contributionsGreat for BeginnersAs complete newbies to the snow we weren’t really sure what to expect but ended up having a great few days at Coronet Peak and by the end had some basic skills that got us down the green slopes without killing ourselves. We bought a last minute NZSki First Timer package that included all equipment on the mountain (except BYO gloves and goggles which are not supplied or otherwise pay top dollar to buy there), access to the slopes and ski or snowboard lessons which was a pretty good deal. Everything from getting your Pass to fitout for the equipment was smooth and easy although we were lucky enough to visit when the Peak wasnt super busy and can see that at peak times it could become more challenging. In those times would def recommend perhaps organizing your pass and equipment hire in Queenstown beforehand. Beginner runs can get a bit busy at times but as you progress onto more challenging slopes it gets less crowded. Cafe and bar have basic hot and cold food and drinks at standard tourist prices or BYO if you prefer to save a few dollars, square lockers available for $10 per day but can get booked out on busier days. We found the biggest challenge was booking transport if you dont have a car like us, given the reduced bus services due to staff shortages on many days the buses are fully booked out. I would recommend booking your transport well in advance and if using NZSki, elect for the hotel pickup if possible which we found was more reliable and convenient if taking all your ski gear.Visited September 2022Traveled with familyWritten September 13, 2022
- Rhiannon7 contributionsPerfect for familiesDrive up the mountain feels like something straight out of Lord of the Rings, perfect scenic view of the valley the further and further up the mountain you go. Plenty of parking space with a fast moving drop off/pick up point for buses. Snowboard + ski friendly in the winter, with relatively fast moving lift lines, fantastic views of the valley, and plenty of different difficulties for all skill levels. In my experience, Coronet Peak tends to cater mostly to the intermediate ski level. Many of the runs at a harder difficulty were barely touched the recent few times i've been there. Have had almost nothing to complain about every time we've returned.Visited July 2019Written February 23, 2020
- KGousQueenstown, New Zealand14 contributionsGreat day out, very expensive for kids!We loved the new gondola and enjoyed the hike at the top. Also fun mountain bike trails although not enough variety yet, looking forward to more trails opening next year. But very disappointed in the cost of fluffies for kids. They had it set up for kids with bouncy castle and trampoline which was great but then charged $3.50 for fluffies which is so expensive, usually pay $1 or $2. We are locals and would go a lot but not with that price, hopefully this changes. Would have given 5stars otherwise.Kia ora Katrina Thanks for your review. Great for everyone including those that are new to skiing or snowboarding. There is a dedicated area for those that are learning and if you only plan on staying there then you don't have to pay as much. I had Paula as my instructor and she was patient, encouraging and persistent. We met at 10:30 and started off by learning how to move/stop/start in skiis. Once everyone felt comfortable we started on the magic carpet and doing short, easy runs. Paula had eyes on everyone on the group and easily saw everyone’s ability levels and adapted accordingly. A member of our group had an accident and it was dealt with professionally and swiftly. Amazing value for money and I even faced my greatest fear of heights and went on the chair lift. A full day of skiing with a fantastic instructor. Big shout out and thank you to Paula!Kia ora Thanks for your review and yes I have passed this on to Snowsports and Paula. Also good to see you were up and riding the chairlift on your first day. That's a very positive step and the miles you get on the skis once you are riding the chair will accelerate your progress immensely. Which is why the Meadows chair is pitched so shorty and gently. Hope you have a chance to build on your first days progress in the future. Its also interesting to watch the hang and para gliders take off and soar over the valley. The peak gondola is also apparently open for sightseeing but I didn't choose to use it.Visited March 2020Written March 10, 2020
- michelle1 contributionTaboggan with KidsThe "dedicated snow play area" was very poor. Not much use to families who just want to enjoy the snow.. The toboggan was expensive at $30 and the toboggan slope wasnt steep enough you couldnt get enough momentum up to get a good run. Wouldnt recommend it. Try Snow Farm instead for tubing - cheaper and friendlier staff The lady who sold us the ticket for the taboggan was on her mobile as we walked in. I dont like heights yet found the open gondola on way up very enjoyable (to my surprise) my son not so much 😂😂😂. Then enclosed gondola back down after doing the walk to top of summit. It’s steep but well worth it. After the gondola we had our pizzas and fries at cafe 1200 they were among the best we have eaten. So good. Staff all super friendly and helpful. - AdventureSheSaidBrisbane, Australia241 contributionsCrowded, busy & terrible snow (went early in the season)Probably the busiest peak, and not super high so if you're going early in the season you're likely to be skiing on artificial snow - which quickly turns to ice and sludge. The slopes are also very very crowded as well as the group lessons (which are quite terrible, 100% do not recommend, just a profit churning industry). If you get the 3-peak pass, stick to the Remarkables, they're quite ... remarkable! (Bus takes 10+ mins longer)Visited June 2022Written September 29, 2022

Very crowded on the slopes and the cafe cannot handle the numbers, there's a v long wait and no seating inside. Pretty high chance of getting hit by people from behind at speed. It's just that kind of resort, somewhat dangerous behaviour - will suit some. Wide variation in instructors, they change daily.

We had such an amazing day on the mountain with Elle. Elle was our instructor who took us from Beginners to Winners in just a few hours.
We highly recommend if you have never been skiing, or maybe it’s been years, since you were kids, do a starter package with a great instructor like Ella. 👍

The mountain bike trails were great, however a lot of the staff didn’t seem like they wanted to be there and the main area was a bit of a ghost town. The biggest let down was the Torpedo 7 bike hire. The bike was quite frankly rubbish. It definitely needed a good service, it made horrendous rattles and creeks and the suspension was non existent. The lad who was working for torpedo 7 was also late to arrive and I kept seeing him on the hill riding? The saving grace for the bike hire was the decent helmet, Goggles and pads which you don’t always get.

I had read in an article that Coronet Peak offered childcare from 3 months old but can only find info from 2 years old on their website. Does anyone know what options there are for daycare for a 1.5 year old while the rest of us ski or are in older kids lessons? Thanks!

If you are not Skiing and only want to get to the top in the lift chair what does it cost, just go up and spend some time there and return without anything to do with skiing, and can we drive up a campervan to the parking area up there? thank you very much.

Yes, snow fall permitting, you can drive a campervan to the carpark (if not, you will be taken by free bus to the facility).
You can take the ride to the top. I don't know what it costs.

Hi, we are looking at staying at Park Residence in July but are having trouble finding if the shuttle stops there, or do we have to make our way to another hotel to get the shuttle to Coronet?
Also - trying to establish if there are parking fees at Coronet
Thanks for any info you can give.

In looking at the map and where you are, there are stops the shuttle makes near you.
When catching it from Duke St it was $20 a day to get to Coronet peak.
Best advice is to contact Snowbiz .nz. co (take out spaces in web address) and they should have the best info on this as they run the buses for this.
Parking is free on the mountain. Obviously, the earlier you get up there, the better park closer to the base station you will get, although they do run frequent shuttles through all the snow level car parks. Please ensure that you have snow chains if required.
Cheers, Ginge.

To use any of the lift facilities a pass is required. The Learners area and passes are obviously cheaper than an all lift pass. Pricing starts at $64 for an adult Learners area lift pass. Unfortunately a Sight Seeing pass at $30 can only be used once to go up a lift. By all means have a look on our web site at packages as well as they are aimed at reduced pricing across different aspects of your intended experience.

Hi, can anyone recommend a snowboard rental shop in Queenstown that also offers free overnight storage on Coronet peak. We arrive in Queenstown late in the evening and would like to get the equipment rentals sorted out for lessons the next morning and really don't want to lug the equipment on shuttle buses up the mountain and back. I posted an enquiry to coronetpeak.website and got no reply. Would appreciate help please.

You can always hire the equipment at the resort and then store it there overnight. It may be a little bit more expensive but then you don't have the hassle of lugging the gear up and down the mountain.

You can drive to Coronet Peak and enjoy the view from the station, but if you want to ski you will need an access card for the lifts.
We had a friend join us to the station and not ski, it was still nice of the evening with the fire and live music.

Yes through Skiwiland. Check out the website Coronet peak
co.nz and you will see the 'My first ski school' programme they run. They have their own slope and magic carpet. Prefect for under 5's
