- BJ_Kennedy_nzHamilton, New Zealand12 contributionsEveryone should do thisThis was a great thing to do for everyone. The aquarium aspect is cool to watch the fish and eels etc swimming around and feeding up close but then the movie comes on and it’s a great historical look at the local area. It talks about the formation of Lake Wakatipu from a scientific perspective but also a Maori legend perspective. Was really cool.Hi there, Thanks so much for leaving such a great review of Time Tripper! We love sharing the story of our backyard (and also what lies beneath!) to our visitors. - DADD23Wellington, New Zealand106 contributionsBest $10 spend in Queenstown!Prefaced by a stirring documentary on the growth of Queenstown (pre-history to now) in which the walls literally move, there is a great opportunity to view fish, eels and ducks below the lake surface. Just a gentle warning that young kids might be a bit disturbed by the sound-and-motion effects of the video. Great value for money, though!Visited April 2021Written April 22, 2021
- KJMSQueenstown, New Zealand29 contributionsThis is a must do!Incredible! I wasn’t expecting how interesting and fun this would be. The history of the lake is very cool, and the visual effects are clever. Plus you’re under the lake so get to see the fish and eels. Make sure you do this when you’re in Queenstown! It’s fun.Hey! - Jonboy75NZUpper Hutt, New Zealand16 contributionsGreat educational visual experienceThis was a great surprise and it’s very well done. It’s probably the best place Queenstown to learn about the lake and it’s history. The time travel concept is brilliantly done and our 7 year old loved it so much he went twice while we were in Queenstown. A great rainy day activity for kids of all ages. Highly recommended. Plus you get to see fish, eels and ducks diving in the lake.Hi there, Thanks for the great review for Time Tripper! It is one of a kind experience that you won't find anywhere else in Queenstown. It is also underwater observatory that us very unique and amazing to see! Definetley do the Time Tripper before the K Jet boat ride, as you get a good insight to Lake Wakatipu!Hey Olivia, Thank you so much for leaving such an awesome review of our new product Time Tripper! - Erandi F1 contributionTime TripperThis is something the town laked all this time. It really gives the exact background that lies about Queenstown in both scientific and Maori myths. Very educative and kids love the short 14 minutes movie clip while we still enjoy the underwater observatory before and after. Its definitely a good advertising way because it makes us feel almost the same as we engage in the activity so we can really choose if we are ready for advertised activities... The first must do in queenstown.Hey there, Thank you for leaving such a nice review for our new product, We love the story of the Lake and are so happy to be able to share it with all our visitors! - Karen GChristchurch, New Zealand14 contributionsSurprisingly goodWent to this because wanted to revisit the aquarium as kids loved seeing the wildlife under the lake when they were small. Had poor expectations for the 'Time Tripper' show but it was actually pretty well done - narration mainly about Maori, wildlife and formation of Aotearoa. Might be a bit scary for young children. Loved watching the scaup (NZ diving ducks) diving down to feed and zooming up again, as well as eels and rainbow trout.Hey there, Thanks so much for your awesome review of Time Tripper! This would have been understandable except nobody phoned or emailed me so I drove 30min with 3 kids and paid for parking only to be told it wasn’t on. It’s not like they were busy as they had no customers. Won’t be giving them a second chanceHi Susan, Sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused with the closure of Time Tripper due to the flooding. It’s a cool experience about the history or queenstown and New Zealand on how it was formed and what roamed the country at different time periods. This is a very cool experience, especially for the price. You get a quick journey back in time and a snapshot of how NZ and Queenstown looked as far back as 80-90 million years ago by watching a semi-surround movie. Then the screens roll up and you are confronted with huge eels and trout and the odd diving duck. You can go right up and stand beside them.

Thank you for your review, we love that you enjoyed your experience, the big windows under the lake certainly do provide entertainment once that screen rolls up !

We stumbled across this on a rainy day in Queenstown while walking around the waterfront. Was unexpectedly good! Very informative and entertaining - 15 minutes was a video on the history of Queenstown from prehistoric days. Then for 15 minutes you can watch the eels, fish and ducks from the underwater viewing area. Worth the $10.

We thought this experience was world class. You can see the fish under the water and ducks that dive down to feed. Then the video presentation starts, which is world class. Well worth $10. Good to have some options for those not interested in adventure tourism.
