Staff were friendly on our arrival, quickly showing us how to use the audio guide and pointing us on our way, armed with a easy-to-read park map! The audio guide is pretty informative. You can skip parts you aren't too interested in if you want. The bird enclosures seem clean and tidy, and all the animals we saw seemed happy and healthy. The kiwi talk at 10am (they have a few throughout the day) was good. It was amazing to see kiwi birds! Honestly, such an amazing animal. Much bigger than I was expecting. The information given to us by the person doing the talk was more or less what I had already heard on the audio guide.. also, sometimes hard to understand due to her heavy accent. We got most of the talk though and she answered all audience questions pretty well. We must have spent 2.5hrs in the park, enjoying the walk around the pretty gardens, seeing the birds up close. We loved the Keas! And the huge pidgeons, haha! The bee keeper area was also great. The staff member there (a guy with a beard, I think!) was very funny and informative, telling us all about the life of the bees, whilst pointing things out on the transparent bee hive. It was fascinating! The 11am conservation show was also very, very good. We saw a variety of animals and learnt about their life in NZ. The staff were amazing, especially the lady doing the chatting. She was very engaging. Yes, it is a little pricey, but the park uses the money to survive. They do not have any outside funding. A worth-while cause. I think children would also have a lovely time here. Cafe and shop too, if you're interested in buying local honey, toys, books, souveneirs or clothing.Visited March 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten March 7, 2020
- horseymum_11Cirencester, United Kingdom863 contributionsKiwi experienceWe enjoyed our visit to the Kiwi Birdlife Park, arriving just in time for the Kiwi talk and feeding time. This was in Kiwi house 1 - I must say that we saw more of the kiwis before the talk began, and also in the second kiwi house than we did during the actual talk! Using our headsets we took a leisurely tour of the park, seeing most of the birdlife, although some were quite elusive. We enjoyed watching the clever Kea keeping himself amused. The only bird who seemed unhappy was the flightless duck who seemed desperate to get out of his enclosure. We rounded up our tour of the park by watching a most informative and entertaining demonstration involving various birds, the ‘ratdashians’, a possum and a kiwi egg. It was particularly interesting to hear about the reason for needing to control pest numbers. The entry fee might be a bit on the expensive side but it’s good to know that it is going towards a good cause.Visited March 2020Traveled with friendsWritten March 10, 2020
- Emma FMelbourne, Australia45 contributionsExcellent Park Kiwi bird the highlightIt was really great. If you buy a ticket you get an audio self guiding tour. It talks about all the animals and nature. There are great educational sessions throughout the day. Your entry ticket goes towards conservation of the animals, so well worth a visit - not just for the enjoyment. With the kiwi bird experience you’re in a dark room and takes a minute to adjust your eyes. Kiwi birds are awake at night and sleeping in day so the room is dark so they feel like it’s night.Visited January 2020Traveled with familyWritten January 22, 2020

Visited here as I thought we couldn't travel around the whole of New Zealand and go home without seeing a Kiwi Bird.
For what the park was offering I think the cost was pretty steep, but we paid it as we hoped the majority of it will go to the conservation work they talked about.
We saw the talk and demonstration. This was conducted by a Chinese girl who we had difficulty in understanding at times.
We walked around the grounds saw the birds and also went into the Kiwi sheds and saw 3 Kiwi's in the dark (They are nocturnal). We also got to taste honey and see the bees in the glass hive, learning some facts from a member of staff.
Pleased I saw a Kiwi.

This park was a fantastic way to spend 2 to 4 hours in Queenstown! Can’t say enough great things about it! Your ticket includes three days of in and out of the park, an audio guide (which was very informative), the kiwi experience (with three different houses to visit to look at the kiwi bird up close and personal, with a lot of interesting information about the kiwi and the park’s efforts to help maintain kiwi populations), and the conservation show (another opportunity to learn and get up close and personal with the tuatara, various birds, and possum). The bird enclosures are amazing and it is obvious they care about the animals and conservation at this park. My husband and I loved it! Very family and animal friendly!

Visited in school holidays - currently half price admission ($70 for family ticket). Includes 30 min show with birds, tuatara and other animals. Blankets and hot water bottles provided so not too cold at show. Regular kiwi feedings throughout the day. Saw lots of native birds and animals with lots of info on how to help native animals. My son took part as a volunteer in show. Cafe looked nice although we didn't stop.

Visited this park to see Kiwi birds. There are a few of them, but we didn’t know that they are nocturnal. They are in dark buildings & we only saw a couple of them because it was feeding time & a worker happened to be there.
It was expensive foe what you really get.

This NZ bird park (plus tuatara!) is wonderful. Please support it because it not only operates a breeding (and release) programme for NZ endangered birds, but it also looks after rescued injured NZ birds.
There are two kiwi houses and you can view kiwi going about their business in both. I recommend seeing both the Conservation Show and also the Kiwi Feeding Show. I was amazed to be able to see kiwi digging for food in their enclosure in front of me!
The standard adult admission price seems high but consider it a donation in support of NZ endangered birds. Please support this wonderful place - your children especially will love visiting here!

We finally got to see a Kiwi. I had brought my son to New Zealand 15 years ago to find out that the Kiwi exhibit in Auckland was closed. The entrance price seemed a little steep but after seeing 4 Kiwis and many birds that we had learned about during our travels, it was worth the money.

This little zoo is owned by a family who are dedicated to running it and the protection of the birds they look after. It is very interesting to walk around, my 3 grandchildren were delighted , we must have covered the same ground 3 times such was thier interest. Support it and enjoy the feel good factor. Lots to see and they even have show and demonstration with interesting talk. Thoroughly recommend visiting.

Just by the lower gondola station there is what looks like a corrugated iron shed. Going through this entrance is a revelation. It opens out into several hectares of nature reserve with many aviaries containing rare native birds. There are three kiwi house used for breeding kiwis for release. It take a while for your eyes to adjust but but after about 5 - 10 minutes you can easily see kiwis going about their business. There is a kea cage where you can go inside and get close to the keas, just watch your shoe laces. Our trip ended with a conservation demonstration in which several native bird were flown close to the audience. Close up of wood pigeon, often seen high up in trees but not this close. Also of a more pork usually heard rather than seen. Over the past thirty years the owner have cleared invasive scrub and weeds and replaced by native plants. This has encouraged local native birds to take up residence and these can be seen flitting about in the trees and bushes. We spent two contended hours here and could easily have enjoyed more.

This is a home away from home for NZ native critters hosted by people who hold dear to their hearts the passion to save, protect, educate, strengthen all it encompasses. Once down the path into the ticket office/shop/cafe you begin to encounter the park area. Audio sets explain everything. There are periodic talks such as in the dark kiwi bird house or the outdoor theater to see birds and even a possum. Well done walking paths through wooded area to see more native birds. It is a bit costly, but money goes to taking care so kiwi bird population may in 30 years recover from near extinction.

Quite expensive normally but post Covid it’s 50% off making it $30 pp. in saying that, the money appears to go straight back to conservation efforts. Also, you can visit again the next day on the same ticket.
I think it’s more that a visit to Queenstown in general is expensive so a day out can really add up.
Beautiful story of the hard working family who had a vision.
Uniquely you are given headsets when you arrive and when you key in the numbers on the exhibits you learn through audio stories.
The Keas were so cheeky. We loved them.
Saw massive kiwi birds and learnt a lot.
Thank you Wilson family for sharing your dream.

hi, How much time will it take to visit whole park?
KiwiBirdlifePark
Queenstown, New Zealand1 contribution
Hello,
We would usually recommend between 1.5 to 2 hours to visit the whole park.
The audio tour takes 45- 60 minutes, the Conservation Show runs for 30 minutes and the Kiwi Feed takes 15-20 minutes.
Your ticket is a day pass so you can leave the park and return in the same day.
I hope that answers your question!

Follow Frankton road to Queenstown, Frankton road becomes Stanley street, at the end of Stanley street veer left into Memorial drive. Go along Memorial drive and take the second street on the right, which is Brecon street. The Kiwi Bird Park is at the top of the hill as well as the gondola.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately, you will need to purchase your gondola and Kiwi Birdlife Park tickets separately as we no longer offer the Kiwi Kombo. We hope that you are able to visit our Park :)
