- roaming_kiwi58Christchurch, New Zealand2,747 contributionsPleasant walking optionsWe always walk along the Arrow River for a bit when we visit Arrowtown. There are a variety of walks to choose from - long and short, whatever you fancy. It is very picturesque, particularly in autumn. There are signboards down by the river behind the Arrowtown village explaining the walk options, or you can more detailed info from the museum in the main street.Visited June 2020Written June 28, 2020
- Apolonia701,549 contributionsFlowing water and gold panningI did a tour with Nomad Safaris and included was a visit to Arrowtown and an adventure across the Arrow River - several crossings and a drive through the river were exhilarating. Panning for gold yielded zero but was fun to see how it was done. A scenic experience and reminder of the power of moving water. Great fun in a jeep.Visited August 2022Written August 28, 2022
- SeemagovesPune, India842 contributionsAmazing 4WD and gold panningIt was a most unexpected day. We took a offroading 4WD and she drove us across the river . At some places it dd get scary. The agency was good as the first vehicle did not seem to be taking us anywhere and so she called for another vehicle and in 10 minutes we had help and a good vehicle at our disposal. This is a must do activity. We also did some gold panning. Ofcourse did not find any nuggets ! but did find some gold dust.Visited January 2020Written January 21, 2020

Consider charging up with a sip of coffee at the Arrowtown Bakery before heading out to the leisure walk along this river. Our kids are fascinated with the nature here.Visited August 2016Written August 6, 2016

- botag1 contributionGold at your back door....We stayed at Millbrook, a beautiful golf resort within walking distance of this small comfortable historic town. I had a great time walking the Arrow River, and exploring the local mining history all on foot. I would say that I liked Arrowtown better than it's famous neighbor, Queenstown.Written January 18, 2007

Stopped off here on a trip to pan for gold all good fun and sand flies although they weren't too much of a problem, river is much like a lot of NZ rivers quite shallow and chalky but a nice place to come to, just watch out for the Nazgul and their horses floating by after Liv Tyler had finished with them

The river is just located right beside arrowtown. It is a good place to take a stroll after walking in the town area. Not exactly a place worth Traveling to solely for it but definitely good to go by if you are already in arrowtown.

I spend a couple of hours panning in the Arrow river. I was bitten by lots of a particular insect and I am still itching after a week. They are black and about 3mm long. Can anyone tell me what they are called, please. What can I use to take the itching and little lumps away. Thanks.

Is there any tout fishing on the Arrow river. If so what time of year?
OVERSZ
South Island, New Zealand1,100 contributions
There are Trout but it may not be a good fishing experience. This is a popular 4WD track up to the historical Macetown. There are often 4WD's crossing the river and with more than 20 crossings undisturbed water might be hard to find
