It was a cold, crisp day but the walk was sheltered from frost (I started at the gondola station) and when it broke out into the open with sunshine, any frost was melted away. The views were amazing. The climb was cheeky and I am pretty fit! However, it was all up and then all down and so it is... More

My Partner and I visited Queenstown in February 2016. I completely fell in love with this place. The Ben Lomond Hike was so beautiful. We took the gondola up and then started the walk from there. It was a tough walk and there were loads of bugs flying everywhere but it was a lot of fun and a good workout.... More

I have completed many of the NZ Great Walks such as the Milford and Routeburn and I rate the views that you get from this trek to be up there. It is a quiet track with little in the way of visitors and provides stunning views of Lake Wakatipu. 100% recommend if you feel up to the challenge. Take enough... More

Stunning walk to the saddle.....wish we had left earlier, allowing enough daylight to reach the summit. We saw several hikers on their way back from the summit when we neared the saddle, and they were elated with their experience. Don't get enticed by trying to get to the Luge ride or lodge on the way up, save that as a... More

After reading other reviewers comments, my boyfriend and I took the gondola up and started the walk from there. As a person with very little hiking experience and of poor fitness, the walk from the saddle to the summit was definitely the hardest part. It is very steep and it is often hard to distinguish where the track is. Hiking... More

For hikers with moderate experience and fitness there is quite simply no better hike in the Wakatipu basin. There are two possible starts, either at the Tiki trail beneath the gondola, or at the top of the gondola, which is where the official trail starts. The whole trek should take anywhere between 3 and 6 hours dependant on where you... More

This is an absolutely spectacular walk of moderate difficulty, and offers some of the most breathtaking views I've ever seen. I've gone and bought a pair of hiking boots thanks to this walk. I've lived in New Zealand my whole life and can't believe I've never experienced this beauty before. It lives up to (and exceeds) all the hype -... More

This was such a beautiful hike!! The views are stunning the whole time so you can hike as far as you like and turn around whenever you want. It can get quite cold in the winter so bring warm layers and a real jacket. I wore two jackets in june and was comfortable. To get to the summit, you probably... More

Really wonderful hike! I hiked until the Saddle which was as far as I could get without winter shoe gear. The views were spectacular. The hike bypassing the gondola was quite steep but beyond that it was totally fine.

This is a great walk and don't forget to bring your tramping shoes, plenty of water and a snack and your cellphone. Don't attempt it at night and bring warm clothes. Always tell someone where you are going and stick to the track.
