This was a first time experience for both my partner and myself. We were both a bit apprehensive (particularly me!) but the staff and guide were fantastic. I immediately felt so comfortable under their guidance and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the trek was amazing, and the surroundings including Moke Lake was absolutely stunning. They also went above and beyond to reorganise our booking so that there were enough people for it to go ahead so we could still enjoy the experience. A special mention to Jaz for taking us on an epic journey and our horses Boom and Reno 🐎 Would absolutely recommend for all skill levels and will be back when next in Queenstown ❤️

This was my second horseback riding experience around the Queenstown area and I liked it much more than my first. The horses were very well taken care of and gentle. The staff was very friendly and the landscape was breathtakingly beautiful. My husband and I chose the 2 hour "Gills Creek Ride" and paid an extra $40 per person for a private tour to avoid being stuck with complete beginners. It was well worth the extra cost as we trotted a few times. They do have saddles that resemble the western saddle as we are used to in the USA however the gait of these horses is very different. During the trott and depending on the horse it may be easier to post or stand. Takes a little time to get used to. The company is next to Make Lake, a stunning lake that is said to be "the most photographed lake in New Zealand" as the reflections of the surrounding mountains in the still waters are magnificent. The manager of the company is from Texas and willing to make it the most wonderful trip for you. Helmets are mandatory and provided. They also provide you with a nice little touch at the end: you are given a "business card" of your horse with its name and photo. Very nice touch and a great souvenir. Would highly recommend this company!

This was my first experience horse riding and it was a blast! Jas was a friendly and helpful guide who made sure everyone on the trek was comfortable. As a total beginner, I felt comfortable on my horse JD and had a great time on the trek. Jas took plenty of photos of us and the picturesque scenery with mountains, rivers, and the lake. I would recommend this activity for anyone interested in riding, including beginners and solo travellers.

This day and experience will stand out as one of my favourite memories in all of New Zealand! The shuttle picked me up at the appointed time (I was the only passenger) and drove me to the Ben Lomond horse meeting place. The drive up and into the valley was almost worth the total cost of the experience. Breathtaking!
A guide gave a quick review or demonstration of horse control and etiquette (this trek was for novices...). Within a very short while, we were helped onto our mounts and we were off. Steph, our guide, clearly loved what she did and was extremely competent. Our little group of 3 was led along a stream, through pastures with cows and their calfs, while Steph answered our myriad questions and gave us great information of the area, etc. A great aspect of this operation is the care and behaviour of the horses. It is obvious that they are well cared for and responsive.
As there had been so much rain in the last few days (ie; Milford Sound Tours were shut down and the road was blocked due to landslides), the creek was now wide and deep. Steph attempted several times to try and fiord the water (one of the lures of this trip was the crossing of the stream), but it was inaccessible. Undeterred, she took us slightly off the predetermined track and found a spot where we could cross. It certainly added to the excitement!
I would certainly recommend this operation to anyone who wants a chance to explore the area outside of Queenstown and be well looked after! Thank you Ben Lomond Horse Trekking Company!!

Yaay Thank you so much Karen for your awesome review! We are so thrilled you had a great time despite the river and valley being a bit wild! The water level is now all back to normal and the horses are quite happy with all the fresh grass growing! We really hope to see you again next time you are coming back to visit NZ . Thanks again for your kind and lovely review!

Thank you to Missy who took our small group out for the 2h Gills Creek ride. We really appreciate your assessing our skill and desire to pick up a bit of speed and rise to the trot and canter. So good to find a company that can make these decisions well to give the customers a great experience. Lovely views, stream crossings and a bit of excitement. Good luck with your next season - highly recommended.

My wife and I decided to do the 1.5hr ride and loved it. We both hadn't been on a horse for over 20 years and were a little nervous. However there was no need to fear as the team do their utmost to make you feel welcome and comfortable. A special mention goes to our guide Jasmin who was very attentive in making sure we were safe and having fun. Our horses were Goose and Munster who were well behaved and easy to ride. Do not miss the opportunity to have a horse ride in this very beautiful part of New Zealand.

I have never ridden a horse before but the girl gave clear instruction and show you how to lead the horse. I feel safe and have fun seeing the cattle the whole activity. They also offer free transport from queenstown. I booked the noon time and it’s warm and not so hot because the mountain block the sun. I highly recommend to do this if you don’t feel like spend lots of money on bungy jumping.

Booked this horse trek last minute as my original activity was cancelled (due to weather). It was the most beautiful and scenic ride and the horses are just wonderful and so gentle. The mountains, views and lakes were insane and just makes you feel so far from town in your own little world. Shout out to Ezrah, my guide who is just adorable, very knowledgable and knows her horses inside out. Had no experience on a horse ever but walked out wanting to get my own horse.

I had a private horse trek with Missi, it was everything I hoped it would be. As an experienced rider I didn’t want to walk in a group so paid a bit extra so I could canter when I wanted etc. Seffer was such a wonderful horse and Missi was an amazing leader and made me feel at home! Loved our chat and will be back another day!!

I went for the longer horse trek, 3-4 hours, and was lucky to only have one other woman in the group, who was also an experienced rider. We got to do some cantering and trotting, which was really nice. Horses were superb too and looked like they are being really well looked after. Our guide Lucy was so sweet and informative! The views throughout the whole trek were just stunning! We got to ride in the mountains and down by the river. Would definitely recommend this activity to anyone who has an interest in horseriding and beautiful scenery.
