Got to do it at least once, great fun.
Great fun thing to do. Got to be done at least once. Booking is essential, crowded at first so difficult to see all the sculptures but most people only lasted 30 mins not the full hour, So Just wait a bit. Booked on line got a discount, one extra cocktail ordered at check in was only an extra $10, bargain.
Kia Ora Diver764965! Thank you for your review! As you could probably tell, Queenstown in general was crazy busy for School Holidays and we are pleasantly surprised by all the Kiwi support! Stoked you got to experience the bar once it was a bit quieter and got to take in the beauty of all the sculptures :) Thanks for joining us and hope to see you again soon! WARM regards, The M5 Team

    30 minutes inside a freezer
This bar was recommended through daughter’s friend. There is a cost to enter ($30?) and then obviously additional costs for drinks - best to pay upfront as extras inside were at a higher rate. For drinkers there are fruit based cocktails and, for non drinkers there are mocktails, which I understand are also sweet. If, like me, you don’t like sweet drinks, go with someone who doesn’t mind. The ice sculptures are lovely and they are changed every few months. There are some that you can sit on. At sign in we were given coats and mittens. I didn’t find it that cold but mittens are needed as the drinking vessels are made out of ice. Smash them in the bin when you leave. We were given 30 minutes inside and were told that we could stay longer if the next group was low in numbers. Having said that we were politely encouraged to leave but there didn’t seem to be many waiting. Never mind. Half an hour was. Probably about right anyway. This is a lovely concept bar ideal for a place like Queenstown. Go with friends or as a couple. Have a few drinks and enjoy the skills of the ice sculptor and the skills of the bartender. Low LED lighting changes colours and the time is just enough to see all the sculptures, take some photos and a drink. Well worth a visit. Smash that cup! Side note ... some visitors thought to bring their kids in who were wearing summer clothes (shorts and sandals). This is a cold room.
Kia Ora RupertAlgyAndBill! Thank you for such a descriptive review! We are very happy that you enjoyed yourself and love hearing about our customers experience. Please feel free to pop by again on your next visit! WARM regards, The M5° Team

    Mills family motor home holiday
I was sceptical when my husband wanted to take us here. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the place. We paid an entry into the bar for each person, which included thick jacket, gloves and cocktail/mocktail and 30mins in the bar. We were able to leave any extra baggage behind for safe and secure storage. When we entered the bar, we ordered our drinks which were supplied in a cup/glass made of ice. You had to be careful not to drop the cup as you would have to pay extra for another. You could also order and pay for more drinks. The rest of the time was used to admire the sculptures and soak up the atmosphere with everyone else. We went there at 4pm, so there were other families as well. It was a bit too cold for some of our family, so they left early! I liked at the end how you could smash your cup into the barrel supplied for this purpose. We had a really great time, definitely worth the visit!
Kia Ora christinemQ3245FW! Thank you for a fantastic review! We are so excited that you had such a memorable experience with your family! We hope to see you again on your next trip to Queenstown! WARM regards, The M5 Team

Recommend you use 2 for 1 voucher.
A must do while visiting Queenstown. Use the voucher from the 'what's on' section in the tourism books to get 2 for 1 entry. Entry + 2 cocktails is normally $40, so 2 for 1 is a good deal. They fit you out with a jacket & gloves, and you get one hour inside which is plenty of time. There is some magnificent ice sculptures inside that apparently get changed out every 6 months or so. When we went there was only the 4 of us and one lady that was travelling alone. I'm not sure how many that they allow in at once (we went pre COVID). Staff were all friendly.
Kia ora Sue! Thank you for the great review. We're glad to be part of many bucket lists, it's even better with a special deal! We usually allow up to 20-25 people in the ICE BAR, so everyone can enjoy our beautiful sculptures. Victor our ICE CARVER created some amazing new artwork last week. We hope to see you again to check these out! WARM Regards from our M5° family.

    Great experience
Definitely worth spending an hour here. It’s good fun especially for the kids. It’s very small, but worth seeing the sculptures. The cocktails are nice but you don’t really want to spend more than a half hour in there. Grab a discount voucher so that your entry is essentially free and this becomes great value and we’ll worth the short amount of time you need to spend on the experience.
Kia Ora SGontour! Thank you for your 5 "bubble" review! We are stoked that you enjoyed the experience! Hope to see you again soon :) WARM regards, The M5° Team

    Don't wear shorts!
The ice bar is small and intimate, and if you can wait out everyone else to the end of your 1/2 hr session, you get the whole bar to yourself for a few minutes. Their website says they provide you with a jacket and gloves, but no mention of making sure you don't wear shorts. I had shorts on because it was 30°C that day and got freezing inside! Overall great experience, the cocktails and mocktails tasted good, and the atmosphere was enjoyable.
Kia Ora siennaneve! Thank you for a lovely review! It's not that often that people can hold out until the end, so good on'ya for sticking it out and getting the space to yourself for a few minutes! Definitely worth it for some unobstructed photo opportunities! Hopefully you come back to visit on your next trip to Queenstown! WARM regards, The M5 Team

    Family visit with Mr 8
Unable to accept GrabOne vouchers due to 'Level 2 restrictions' and yet you're still allowed to pay to enter and use your voucher value against purchases instore. The script from the customer service rep felt overly rehearsed unfortunately. Our 8 year old was in tears. The whole experience was wholly unsatisfactory.
Kia Ora Michelle, We are really sorry your experience with us at Minus 5 Ice Bar wasn’t enjoyable. We pride ourselves on our customer service and providing a really great experience for our guests, so it’s really hard for us to hear that we’ve let you down. We’ve taken this feedback very seriously and have discussed it as a team. With our GrabOne vouchers, these would have been purchased prior to the August lockdown with a disclaimer stating that M5 Ice bar will have to close temporarily if Queenstown moves to COVID-19 alert level 2. The Ice Bar cannot operate normally under level 2 restrictions due to the regulations placed on us by the Government and the sub-zero conditions in the Ice Bar. While other bars can function, we cannot ask our guests to remain seated on pure ice in sub-zero temperatures - adding to this, we're no longer able to provide our guests with adequate warmth – our usual jackets, hats etc cannot be offered to our guests under level 2 restrictions. We do appreciate that re-opening the Ice Bar this time around under level 2 may have caused some confusion. While we have re-opened, we have not re-opened at full capacity. We are only accepting private functions & private group bookings (referred to as ‘Bubble Sessions’) to comply with COVD-19 level 2 restrictions. These are very different experiences to our classic level 1 experience and something we’ve only been running since September of this year. We understand that COVID has been around for a while now, however we’ve only adapted our offering recently so it’s all still a bit new to us as well. This will explain why it’s not expressly outlined in the GrabOne Terms and Conditions. GrabOne vouchers are only valid for our classic level 1 experience and not our adapted level 2 experience. Our team have been doing their best to ensure that customers are given adequate options to avoid disappointment: a full refund or they can use the voucher as credit towards our new private level 2 experience. Upon reflection, we do understand that our wording with our GrabOne vouchers could be clearer. Please know that this wasn’t intentional, we didn’t foresee us being in level 2 for so long nor did we see foresee us adapting and re-opening under level 2. Once we reinstate GrabOne vouchers we will be amending the wording moving forward. Again, we really appreciate the feedback. If you have any further information you need to share please let us know at marketing@futurebars.co.nz so that we can work through it together. Kind Regards, the team at Minus 5 Ice Bar

    Small but worth a visit
Great experience for the kids. Cocktails were nice. I’d recommend using a voucher if you have one. We had a voucher for kids free entry, 1 per paying adult. Although you still need to pay $5 per child for a mocktail The bar was smaller then I expected. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere inside.
Kia Ora kelhz! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and we appreciate all feedback! As a bit of background information for you, Minus 5° ICE BAR has been operating for almost 16 years, making us one of the oldest ICE Bars in the World. Back then, it was quite common to have a space similar in size to ours, making it feel intimate, cozy and feeling like you are in an igloo. There are newer and larger ICE Bars/Hotels around now-a-days, however we are the original in New Zealand! :D Finding a voucher, however, is a score! We love a good deal! We are happy you enjoyed your experience and hope to see you again in the future! WARM regards, The M5° Team

    Done it once, tick.
Cool for 15mins but then what? Don’t know what I expected but - It’s a small room, you get a small drink, the room is packed like sardines (they take you in in a massive group and you can barely shuffle around each other). And it’s not cheap. This is your stock standard “I’m a tourist, look at my photo” attraction. Tick. We had booked well in advance and I believe they let too many in with us and really ruined the experience. All for the almighty dollar.
Kia Ora chrisgray78! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! We appreciate your feedback whether good or bad. We are the original Ice Bar in New Zealand and have been in operation for almost 15 years. The original Ice Bar idea was to simulate what it feels like to be in an actual igloo, being completely surrounded by hand-carved ice. Also to offer an experience that is intimate and personable with knowledgeable and friendly staff! I understand your frustration with the amount of people going into the bar, but I'm sure you're aware that we were closed for almost 3 and a half months for Covid Lockdown and related restrictions so have only recently reopened. Tied in with School Holidays and the influx of Kiwi's to Queenstown, this is the busiest we've seen town and our Ice Bar in a very long time. It is our top priority to ensure everyone has a good time and we're very disappointed we didn't hit the mark for your visit. Next time you are in Queenstown please let us know as we would like to treat you to another experience in a more low-key environment. Feel free to email manager@minus5icebar.com when you're in town. Unique Experience
Fun, unique experience. The cocktails were delicious, it was great that they offered mocktails too. It was a bit busy and on account of the area being quite small, it did feel a bit cramped in there and we struggled to see all the sculptures.
Kia Ora Tinkie12! Thank you for your review! We are stoked you enjoyed the experience but understand your frustration as it is our busiest time of the year during school holidays. We had a wonderful time in the Minus 5 Ice Bar. Our hostess was an awesome lady, lots of fun and ensured we had a good time. The warm clothing (jackets and gloves) were very necessary. The set up of the bar was amazing - ice sculptors/carvings everywhere and the bar itself was well setup. We thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails (there was plenty of choice) and the music helped everyone get into the occasion. Heaps of fun.

My sister and I went for a 9pm slot Monday 14th June 21, went at 8.30pm to be early and was lucky enough to go in straight away. We had the most amazing experience, cocktail on arrival and not too many people squished in the bar. What made it more memorable was the very happy waitress who we cannot remember the name of (I think Becky) was so happy and lovely. Asked her questions about the ice and how it's carved etc etc and she was happy to talk with us. This just makes the experience super amazing. Left feeling we had the best hospitality. Thank you so much!!!!

The ice bar is a fun place to visit for the whole family. It goes without saying that it’s cold in there but they give you big warm coats and gloves to keep warm. There is a choice of yummy cocktails/mocktails in ice glasses and our kids loved smashing the ice glasses at the end into the special bin. There are loads of amazing ice sculptures that are perfect for photo opportunities. Lots of fun!
