Experience the thrill of body boarding down the Kawarau River with the original riversurfing company! Forget about any white water activity you`ve ever seen. This is Serious Fun Riversurfing. The most exciting, exhilarating and interactive water activity on the planet. Each trip begins in a calm section of the river; the guides give you a full safety briefing and teach you the basics in riversurfing before you set off on your white water adventure. We have the world’s most experienced and qualified guides and 100% safety record since 1989. Where did it all begin? Jon Imhof, a surfer from Hawaii, came to Queenstown to go snowboarding and he liked Queenstown so much that he decided to stay for summer. Missing the waves of the ocean, he looked for an alternative and came up with the crazy idea to follow the rafters down the Shotover River and surf waves on his body board. Although the rapids were great, he found it was too shallow and decided to go down the Kawarau River instead, and the sport of riversurfing was born.In 1989, with riversurfing in high demand, Jon established Serious Fun Riversurfing, the original riversurfing company. A few years later, after looking for other suitable locations around the world, Jon started a sister company on the Zambezi in 1995 and some of the African guides took the sport up to the White Nile in Uganda, and to this day, these are the only three places in the world you can go riversurfing!

After spending a few days in the Remarkables it was just good to have some fun on the river. Good times, you get to do it twice. The guides are very professional. Thanks for an awesome day guys, see you next time 👍🏻

Heaps of fun surfing some pretty hectic water and rapids. The guides were awesome and felt really safe with them tailing us in the water. Pretty cold but wet suits did the job! The second run was more full on! Gutted we didn't buy photos!

Never done anything like this before, in the hands of Rose and Lewis I was completely comfortable and had a great time running through the course twice and rock jumping off the side of the river

Did this with my two boys (8 and 10yo) on the way to Queenstown. The river was pretty cold and fast. The boys did it twice, they enjoyed it that much!. Guides were great with the kids. Recommend to all who enjoy water.

We were a group of 50 year old + and some of us a little hesitant about the day. However the guys who were our guides were very professional and very experienced and looked after all 7 of us very well. Highly recommend it to anyone who is considering. A real bucket list adventure worth the money. Tony Gold Coast

To truly experience the river you have to be in it. While in Queenstown I wanted one experience way out of my comfort zone - and this was it. You need a decent level of water confidence, fitness and strength for sledging. I was committed, but anxious. Our guides, Lewis & Neil, were fantastic - friendly, calm, reassuring. Nothing would... I had a lot of fun river boarding a few weeks ago! I have done rafting and river tubing in the past, but never anything quite like this. It was fun to go through the rapids up close. The guides were great! I felt safe the whole time I was in the water. They will pull or point your board... More

We did this on our honeymoon and had a great time! It's definitely a physical challenge (and a little scary!), but fun too! They had three guides with a group of 10 people, and they did a great job of helping everyone stay close(ish) together on the river. We'd never heard of anything like this anywhere else, so we just... More
