This was such a neat way to sample New Zealand wines. With the wine country so sprawling and spread out, this was a single location that allowed us to taste a variety of wines in a comfy setting. The wines were dispensed through a very clean, high-tech, airtight system, and the store provided lively descriptions. Customers are able to purchase a 1-, 2- or 4-oz pour. then pay at the end on the "debit card" you've made (no charge for the card itself, only what you drink). You are free to wander and taste at your own pace, reading articles and pamphlets from the local winemakers. Wines were separated by type, and there was also a section for special tastings of whiskey, dessert wines and "other" uncategorized tastes. Although they offered small plates of food for sale, we didn't partake since we were ready for dinner. We were impressed with the type and quality of fairly priced wine accessories for sale (our tasting glass was a Riedel). The wines available were appropriate for many palates and many different budgets. We had very friendly service, and the guys at the counter explained that this was the largest tasting experience of its type in the Southern Hemisphere. As people who love wine and love a good time, we were two thumbs up on this stop!
