We really enjoyed trying the many fine selections of NZ wines, and a tasty cheese board. It’s nice to sit at a common table to meet and talk with other interesting visitors. The owner and staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, and helped us make excellent choices.

The amount of available wines were impressive, and the tasting system quite sophisticated. We ordered cheese platter with the wine. Everything very good, but quite expensive. They even charged extra for a few gluten free biscuits.

What a find! We thought we were heading into a bottle store, this place is SO much more.

Wine tasting, so many wines in offer, incredible cheeseboard and such friendly service. Made our afternoon.

We will be back for sure.

We went to The Winery in Arrowtown as part of the hop on Hop off tour and what a hidden gem it was- we had walked past it the previous day and had no clue it was there!
It has 100s of wines abd you can choose to taste as many as you like with the chip card they give you. Choose the wines you taste; with the simple push of a button you can serve yourself either a taste, half or full glass. There were 5 Chardonnays and 4 Sav Balncs the day we were there. Relax and unwind in the comfort of the leather lounge chairs by the fire or sit outside while the sun shines.
The staff are really friendly and helpful. You can do Gin and Whiskey tastings as well.

Having fallen in love with New Zealand's wines, I was thrilled to discover The Winery. We visited twice, each of us sampling seven to nine NZ wines per visit (we always chose the small tasting size and were judicious regarding how much of each tasting we consumed). The card that you insert for each pour keeps a running tab for you, which is a great feature. The tasting-size prices were very reasonable (some under NZ $3), the wine collection is extensive and fun to explore, and the comfy chairs and seating arrangements encourage you to linger. Wish we had The Winery near us!

My husband and I are wine enthusiasts and enjoy tarting fine wines. We came across this place and thought we'll give it a go. The atmosphere was very nice and you can order a cheese platter to enjoy with the wine tastings. There are lots of different wines available for tasting which was very impressive but I did find it to be quite expensive. Many of the wines we ended up tasting is about $8 to $12 per 25ml tasting which really added up. Guess I'm used to walking into a cellar door and having free tastings or paying a small free to taste all or at least majority of their wines so paying a substantial amount for wine tasting is not quite for me. I would say this place offers an impressive wine selection for tasting but is not value for money. There was a wine there that we purchased from another liquor store for $95 NZD but they were selling it for $130 NZD so I would shop around first before buying wine from there.

This was such a neat way to sample New Zealand wines. With the wine country so sprawling and spread out, this was a single location that allowed us to taste a variety of wines in a comfy setting. The wines were dispensed through a very clean, high-tech, airtight system, and the store provided lively descriptions. Customers are able to purchase a 1-, 2- or 4-oz pour. then pay at the end on the "debit card" you've made (no charge for the card itself, only what you drink). You are free to wander and taste at your own pace, reading articles and pamphlets from the local winemakers. Wines were separated by type, and there was also a section for special tastings of whiskey, dessert wines and "other" uncategorized tastes. Although they offered small plates of food for sale, we didn't partake since we were ready for dinner. We were impressed with the type and quality of fairly priced wine accessories for sale (our tasting glass was a Riedel). The wines available were appropriate for many palates and many different budgets. We had very friendly service, and the guys at the counter explained that this was the largest tasting experience of its type in the Southern Hemisphere. As people who love wine and love a good time, we were two thumbs up on this stop!

Imagine you've gone to your filthy rich Uncle's house who is heavily into wine. He has open 100 or so bottles and says go for it. Well you get the picture, but it will cost you a bit if you get carried away. Mind you...its wine and holidays....go for it! (Oh they have whiskey too!)

My fiancé and I went here after dinner. We were interested in some after dinner drinks but not necessarily the crazy going out scene. We happened upon the winery walking down the street. This place has pretty reasonable prices where you could sample dozens of New Zealand wines, and others, getting tastes, half glasses, or full glasses. It was a super cozy and relaxing atmosphere and instead of putting money on a card and not being able to use all of it, you just pay for what you drink at the end. We didn’t get any food, but if you want some cheaper options the place is connected to a food court next door. I would definitely recommend the winery if you want a relaxing atmosphere and want to try a bunch of wines at a reasonable price. I think we spent under $50 NZD and tried 7 or 8 glasses of wine (half glasses not tastes).
