My 19 yr old daughter and I did the Canyon Shotover Swing yesterday and it was truly fantastic! The whole experience from beginning to end was run really professionally with fun, competent guides that made the whole experience truly something we will never forget. We did it as part of the combo package, which meant we did the Shotover JET straight after with the tasting experience at the Brewery. Loved the Shotover Jet too and the brewery is in such a gorgeous spot, where you can have a beer and some flat bed and reflect on the action-packed morning you just had. If I could rate it more than 5 stars I would. Our guide for the day, Georgia was fun, relaxed and very competant - exactly the kind of vibe you need when you're about to hurl yourself off a cliff. Do yourself a favour and make sure you experience this while you are in Queenstown and use these guys they know what they are doing and make it amazing!!

AMAZING. So much fun. I was hesitant to do it as I felt I was kind of expensive for just a jump but once I did it, I just wanted to do more. You have more than 20 different styles of jumping and whatever you choose, the master make sure you are having fun at the same time that you are safe.

From beginning to end the experience was flawless. Your staff are your greatest asset seconded by the scenery and thrill of the swing! My daughter and her bestie had a wonderful time and I felt reassured by the meticulous checks and double checks that the crew did on the equipment. Not once did safety cross my mind as they were so diligent!

What an amazing adventure! Adrenaline filled, so much fun to do as a tandem with a friend. Great crew, made you feel safe, welcomed and had a little fun winding up my friend, building anticipation! So many fun options to do for the jump, worth a good laugh and the views are incredible!

Thankfully I won this flying fox/canyon swing from another company otherwise I would of been more angry and kicked up more of a fuss!!
So, I am afraid of heights... ( I know, why the hell are you jumping off cliffs then!) But I did a skydive a week back and thought if I can do that from 15,000ft I can do this... plus, I want to get over my fears and push myself. Anyhow, I did the flying fox first, the two gentleman who strapped me up were friendly enough... I was absolutely petrified and they were very patient with me! I eventually, after a good 10 minutes ran and jumped off the platform!!
I got to the other end and was greeted by a young LAD! he straight away seemed he had some kind of chip on his shoulder and was rude to me straight off the bat!
From here on in it went all down hill.....so, I had to take a seat on the bench (over looking cliffs and was very high) and wait for some other people who were also doing the flying fox.. In that time, the staff member was scaring me saying how I wasn't strapped in properly.. I did mention I was scared of heights but he seemed to take that as 'I'll scare her even more then' eventually three other people from the other side came over and then one of the guests decided to scare me aswell and kept lurching me forward towards the cliffs. Both the staff member and the guest were scaring the living daylights out of me.
When it came to the time where I had to zip line over to the next platform I was so petrified that I wasn't strapped in properly and I also thought the staff member was just going to chuck me off without any warning, I couldn't physically go!! The staff member then decided to SHOUT at me and told me to "SIT DOWN, LIFT YOUR LEGS UP!!!! CAN'T YOU LISTEN TO INSTRUCTIONS!!" I had tears in my eyes and just couldn't wait to get off this horrible zip line, I lifted my legs took a deep breath and just went.
I got to the other end and burst into tears, it was the most horrible experience and I shall never ever do anything like that again, needless to say I did not partake in the canyon swing!!!
If someone is scared, surely you're supposed to motivate them, not to scare the living daylights out of them!!!

First I am disapointed that they offer you a second swing for 35 dollars but they do not tell you that you are only on a waiting list - just in case other people want to pay 225 for a first jump.

That is not a great service and it is not respectfull to the already paying customers.
I am so angry and not satisfied with the service.

You should perhaps chance the offer or just book the customers who wants a second jump.

Not a trustworthy Company!

I done the canyon swing with my Boyfriend, and five others.
The Guys working there were So sleazy! Making inappropriate comments! One guy even asked a girl to turn around so he could check out her bum! Taking the piss out of people for their own amusement and over all making the experience unpleasant!
Ive done a skydive and Bungy and would recommend doing these over the swing! As the swing takes the same amount of Guts to do as the Bungy because you still jump yourself on your own accord, but which would you rather say you've done a Bungy or a swing?

Overall disappointing

We booked a canyon swing and fox (zipline) for a Saturday morning. At the fox site, windspeed was just under 20 metres/second, which is the limit for safety. The staff were initially very funny and joking around with me that I would be hanging off a small string and that it would be intense and frightening. I appreciated this at the time because it was all in good fun. They hooked me up, and after some more joking around, released the zipline: I flew forwards about 5 meters to the end of a metal frame and was then lurched backwards as the zipline got stuck at the end of the metal frame, leaving me suspended over the canyon.

I initially thought this was a joke, and shouted to the staff that that was not cool, as during the lurch I hurt my neck. It became apparent that this was not a joke, and that I was just stuck suspended over the canyon. Because it was so windy, I could not hear instructions the staff were shouting to me from the side of the mountain. Eventually, after much shouting, one of the staff had to throw a carabiner harness over to me so that I could hook myself in and be pulled back to safety. Apparently this has never happened while the fox has been running for the last two years.

I understand that things can go wrong, and I’m grateful I came away alive. However, after this incident, there was no safety debriefing from the staff, no acknowledgement of what went wrong and no apology. The staff obviously were not trained to deal with a situation that was not part of their standard routine, and this is very dangerous. They ushered me to the canyon swing, where yet again, no one gave me any debrief, explanation or apology. The staff instead continued to joke around saying that, after all, I had “wanted a thrill, right?” I was made to sign an incident form, and then waited a very long time in the waiting room (again, without anyone saying anything to me) before doing the swing.

The whole incident left a very sour taste in my mouth, and I didn’t really enjoy the canyon swing after that, because I didn’t trust the staff anymore. We were then informed that the fox had been fixed and we could try again if we wanted… Hmm no thank you. I raised my concerns, and the lady at the desk said she would give me a refund for the fox and some free photos of my swing. I agreed and just wanted to leave. She was then informed that I could not have both the photos and a refund, which was ridiculous - I didn’t want a refund because I was too scared to do it or for any reason of my own - I wanted a refund because there was an actual malfunction! I then had to argue my case… finally, she agreed to honour her initial offer. Instead of a refund however, she actually just charged my card for another 70 dollars! Thankfully I picked this up on my online banking app and then had to wait another ten minutes while she learned how to process a refund, and try again.

I’m giving two stars because the canyon swing itself was fine (even though it lasted all of five seconds after waiting a long time). However, the attitude of the staff when things go wrong, the lack of training they have in dealing with incidents, and their unwillingness to sort out the problem and process a refund was truly shocking. I have heard the AJ Hackett swing has been going for longer and is really highly rated - I would recommend them instead.
