We enjoyed the great scenery and photo opportunities and our guides were very friendly and reasonably informative. However, the guides were a little too honest about their level of interest and knowledge on LOTR. Chosen for the Lord of the Rings ‘flavour’ we felt we...More

You have some seriously long drives planned. We don't have wide multi-lane freeways and many people, locals included, find driving more than 5 hours in one day exhausting. You may find visiting both Sounds a bit redundant. I suggest you explore Milford and leave Doubtful for next time :) You will better manage your time and distances if you go; 8 explore Franz 9 drive to Wanaka, explore, Puzzling World 10 drive to Te Anau 11 explore Milford Sound, stay Te Anau 12 drive to...More

I'm confused about Day 5, Day 6, and Day 7. Te Anau is the base to the Sound cruises, so why are you going back to Queenstown? Manapouri is 20 minutes from Te Anau.

It's still very busy here at the moment, and likely to be so when you are here. If you know the dates you want to do these tours it would be a good idea to pre book. Some tours are weather dependant, such as the helicopter hike, but in this case they will either re schedule or refund. In fact most companies will refund if you give sufficient notice.
