Why bother with the Ferry when you can be on the Island in just over 30 minutes. We felt safe and looked after. Value for money and not much more than paying for the Ferry. Love Stewart Island. It's so relaxing and laid back. The South Seas Hotel sell the best food. Crayfish and Seafood are their specialty

Flying to Stewart Island is the only really reliable way to go if you are not a good sailor, the ferry trip can be very "lumpy" as the Foveaux Strait is very changeable, with even on relatively calm days, high sea states and high winds. The flight over is relatively short with spectacular views of Southland, Foveaux Strait and Stewart... More

I took a flight to Mason Bay - the turbulence was awesome. We couldn't land at Duck Creek so the pilot did a big banking turn to land at the gutter. What a way to start a tramp! I also got a ride back to Invercargill.

These guys went out of their way to help us locate a bag our Motel had lost and get it back to invercagil for us. Good flights on a tiny plane which made it fun and they take you right to the town centre.

We flew over on a calm partly cloudy day and my son was lucky enough to sit up beside the pilot. The pilot was friendly and helpful and gave us clear concise safety instructions and we were more than confident in his ability. Once we arrived on the island a van was there to collect us and drop us to... More

You can either take a very short flight from Invercargill to Stewart Island, or you can take a much longer ferry. If your time is limited on Stewart, I would recommend maximising your time there and not on the journey-- Take the plane! The airline is nice, easy to use, and not terribly expensive. The flight takes about 30 minutes.... More

Chose to fly for the 15 minutes, rather than do the boat ride.... Well, what an experience, didn't seem to be flying too high so visibility was excellent. The whitecaps and the wind coming across us combined with the odd bump made for an interesting flight. I've done the flight from Katmandu toLukla and this one was in the same... More

Decided to take the flight to Stewart island rather than the ferry. We booked well in advance as we needed to be on the Island at a particular time. Booked in at Invercargill Airport after leaving the hire car in the car park. Plenty of spaces. The airport is very new and pleasant with a small cafe available for drinks... More
