This would have to be the worst town square we've ever been to!!!
For some reason there are concrete tubs pained by kindergarten children with fighter planes and space invaders, and wooden planter boxes around. But the main attraction is all the forklifts and builders banging on.
Dropped off here on our tour of the city and what a waste of time!!!
Access via a smelly arcade to a deserted square - that looked like a concert was just finished.
How is this even an attraction?

The Octagon is a set of streets in the central part of Dunedin which orientation of the streets has the form of an Octagon. There you can find many of good and interesting restaurants, bars and pubs of Dunedin which is a guarantee of a very nice happy hour. Also, there you can find many good shops which are open along day and where you can find something you need.

We ended up here on a Friday night after the Dunedin Beer festival and it was perfect for what we needed. Lots of bars, plenty of tipsy ladies and banter galore. It’s prob the only spot open late night on the weekend.

The Octagon is a small central park with an octagonal street pattern around it. When we were there no vehicular traffic was allowed, and the streets were thronged with pedestrians. The area is fully of grand stone buildings and monuments from the colonial period, as well as many cafes and restaurants. We enjoyed an hour our so strolling around. The Presbyterian cathedral was a highlight.

This is a lovely area right in the middle of town , very busy when we were there.
A lot to see and well worth the time to have a good look around.
The statue of Robert Burns dominates the centre area , very nice it is .
Some nice building in the area as well as eating and drinking places.
A clever design all up .

Just stopped off here whilst on a cruise. Enjoyed walking around the city very much, and enjoyed walking around the octagon. It’s a great place to send to yourself, easy to find your way around. Great bus station in the middle of the octagon. Beautiful church, and a modern Art Gallery which was fabulous and nice cafes etc

I have alwasy enjoyed coming to this area of Dunedin, but not any more. The parking,[articuarly for disabled people is very very poor to non exitant. Planter boxes restrict traffic flow and parking, even outside a building for disable people. Wont return in a hurry.Supposedly some european "expert" has dvised Council on this aspect. Go back to the way it was if you want toursits to enjoy the area.

Great area for food and bars. Very close to our hotel, so walking there, was no problem. Plenty of choice.
