We thoroughly enjoyed our trip into rural NZ. The weather was superb - so lucky. Fascinating commentary. The train trip itself super although didn't start well as we were seated in a squished corner - however, asked for a change & no probs. Thank you - an enjoyable journey & well worth the dosh. The Dunedin train station also amazing

The trip starts slowly but after 30 minutes leaves the urban scene and moves deep into a very scenic gorge. Wonderful vistas follows the rest of the trip, the staff are helpful with a good commentary along the way. We would recommend this for overseas tourists as it gives a good insight into N Z rural settings as well along the... More

i really enjoyed seeing parts of Otago that i have not seen b4 and unable to access via car. However in our carriage the heating was not working and boy was it cold. We were well dressed but by the end of the he trip frozen to the bone.

I loved the rattly old carriages. the views were amazing, especially on the viaducts. the commentary was very helpful in evoking the past, also the displays on the side of the track at the Hindon and Pukerangi stops. There were fascinating stories of the extremely hard life of the railway workers and their families. the locals' tiny "market" under a... More

I have just completed a week long excursion run by Dunedin railways, Christchurch to Stewart Island return with a side trip on the Taieri Gorge Railway. I am not a 'train buff' but I love train travel and this one was superb. The rail car was excellent, aided by great staff, and the gorge was nostalgic in the old carriage.... More

Great 4 hour trip through magnificent scenery, amazing engineering from so long ago. The staff on the train were friendly and helpful and helped to make the overall experience most enjoyable. Food and drinks available but not much choice for a dairy free person i.e. Pot noodles!

I did the train journey 1 way, from Pukerangi to Dunedin. There really is nothing at Pukerangi, not even a railway station! The train just stops in the middle of nowhere. If you are doing the train journey only 1 way then bear in mind that Pukerangi is in the middle of nowhere and you will need to pre-book any... More

Great trip, amazing scenery and very informative comentary. Well worth doing as you will not see such scenery by road. The gorge is something else and the conductor was a treasure. Good food as the trip is 4 hours

A wonderful trip with great scenery, the chance to stand on a viewing platform, deep gorges and a great commentary. Drinks and food available but would recommend taking own picnic.
