This beautiful train ride lasts around four hours as it slowly winds its way along the Gorge and back to Dunedin. At the top you appear to at a level with the mountains. Some guys caught the train back after a cycling experience but we travelled there and back. Relaxing with spectacular views. Buffet on board fairly reasonably priced. There... More

Take the old trolley train across the Gorge and you will not be disappointed. You can stand outside between the cars or ride Inside. Either way the views are spectacular. If you are a shutterbug, you will be kept busy. The coach car sells drinks and snacks. The narration is live, informative and funny. Good day on the train.

My wife and I took the train to Pukerangi. The view was great and the train was comfortable. A couple of Speights on the way went down nicely too!

Recently took the Taieri Gorge train ride and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The were views sensational and the commentary really added to a great trip. Interesting market stalls were set up at the turn around point. Food is available on the train. Some may find the cost excessive but I found the experience was worth it.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this trip, but it turned out to be very special. The train is genuinely old rolling stock, but nonetheless comfortable. It travels quite slowly, and the views of the countryside and the gorge itself are breathtaking. There is a commentary throughout, which is very informative and knowledgeable. The best of it is that... More

a trip through a most beautiful gorge interesting track with many tunnels trestle bridges and Cliffside tracks. the commentary was interesting and helped us understand the history of the line and how it was constructed. the staff were very pleasant and it was an afternoon well spent. only problem was a late start due to waiting for another train on... My husband and I took the morning train trip up the Taieri Gorge. It was slower paced then a lot of other activities but that is good when you are on holidays. We were in one of the older style carriages, which was beautiful - only downside is no windows in the ceiling. The seats are comfortable and we had... More

We finished cycling the Otago Rail Trail and had been booked on this train to Dunedin from Pukerangi by our Australian travel agent. We knew little about it beforehand so we're thrilled at the trip down through the Gorge in the old style train carriage. We enjoyed the commentary and the freedom we had to move about the cabin to...
