This is a must do activity if visiting Dunedin. The trip in total was around 4 hours return which at first I thought would be a bit long and boring, but it was the complete opposite. Stunning views, informative commentary and stops along the way for photo opportunities. There is also food and beverages onboard that we found to be... More

The trip was amazing! The views were truly stunning. although four hours felt a little too long the freedom to take everything in at your own leisure was very nice. If you are in Dunedin this is something you must do! Enjoy a few drinks and make a day of it.

No doubt the views were awesome but once you reach the summit you just drive backwards not turning around or changing up the view, so seeing the same scenery throughout the trip. Staff at cafe were alright not the politest, and the food did not have much selection, packet food and cabinet sandwiches. For $91 it seems a stretch but... More

We travelled on the free trip that was put on for the Dunedin Syrian former refugees and their Red Cross voluntary workers. It was a wonderfully generous occasion and greatly appreciated by all those involved. As well as the trip itself we were given coffee and chocolates and the Strath Taieri Lions put on a barbeque lunch. As always, the... More

This was a great experience. The train itself was a piece of history. The staff were friendly and cooperative. The main highlight of course was the must see scenic views.

I had done the Taieri Gorge line back in 1991, and was foiled in 2010 from doing it again due to landslips. The Sunday run to Middlemarch allowed me to go the full length of the line. A pleasant run with time for a pint and a sandwich in Middlemarch's pub. There is a good café as well in Middlemarch... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Initially we were bussed to a nearby station due to public works. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. Very comfortable ride and recommend the viewing platforms. Stunning landscapes and spectacular views.

Hello and thanks for your rating and review. Glad to see you had a good trip with us - and yes, the platforms are very popular to ride on. Bussing out to where you got on the train is not usual - we usually depart from the beautiful railway station in the city but due to work being done on... More

We were in dunedin when we decided to do this train trip and were glad we did. It gives you quite a different perspective on the surrounds of Dunedin and you get to see the terrain where a lot of gold prospecting was done. The train was comfortable, good food and coffee - they even had decafe - which small... More

Leaving Dunedin Railway station, which on its own is a must see, particularly on a Saturday when possibly one of New Zealand's great farmers markets is run you board the train just before lunch and plan to return at approx. 4.30. The journey takes you through the suburbs of Dunedin and then through some magnificent scenery, climbing into the Taieri... More

Cruise ship passengers should definitely take this tour. After the ship docked in Port Charmers, it was a short walk to the train, then off we went thru beautiful countryside. The train runs along side a river, over trestles, and thru tunnels. It eventually stops, and reverses direction at a rural siding, where locals have set up booths selling handicrafts. The... More
