I would say that you come to Governors Bay for three reasons.

One to go to the old pub, or the café, or to do the coastal walk.

I have done all three and can recommend the trip over there to enjoy and to experience these three points of interest.

The bay itself is tidal so the view of the water can change depending on the time of the day.

The walk (all flat) around the coast is well maintained and nice enough to enjoy either before or after a trip to the café or pub.

We spent 10 days in a quaint cottage here.
Not much in Govenors bay (hamlet) but the sea views and tracks along the shoreline are wonderful.
Highspot of our stay wrre the days we spent in the gardens of Ohinetahi. Amd inspirational garden, cared for ny two engagingly typical dpwn to earth kiwis.
Some of the sculptures were truely womderful

Not much there that I could find, but the "She" cafe serving coffee, chocolate and a restaurant until around 4 p.m.

We did the Governors Bay Heritage Walk. This is a beautiful path that is dog friendly and very easy. We walked this path everyday while we were staying near Governors Bay and it’s so different of the high and low tides, the views are very beautiful and it’s a dirt path. It was approx 3km flat path to get to Governors Bay from Allandale and you can add more onto it. It is approx 8km return.

Governors Bay is where I have lived for the past 12 years. i would never want to move from here. We are at the head of Lyttelton Harbour - Lyttelton is a mere 12 minute drive from here right around the Summit Road with scenic views all the way. Governors Bay has a wonderful hotel where you can have lunch or dinner - accommodation is also available. We also have the SHE Chocolate Cafe and shop with beautiful chocolates for sale. There is a lovely walk around the Bay from the Jetty (we are currently raising funds to replace the damaged Jetty - (sadly Earthquakes responsible for its destruction ) the walk is the original horsetrack around the head of the Harbour and is flat all the way around to Allandale where there are toilet facilities available. Governor Bay also has a wonderful primary school which has one of the best views in the Bay. Well worth a visit if driving it is a 15 minute drive from the City over the Port Hills - stop at the Sign of the Kiwi for an overall view of the City skyline. and maybe an icecream (yes there is a lovely café at the Top. Continue down the otherside of the hills and you will come to Governors Bay - bays further around include Charteris Bay, Diamond Harbour and Purau Bay. Come see this wonderful place sometime - very popular during the summer months.

Visited on Wednesday 23rd May. It is well worth the short drive from Lyttelton to Governor's Bay, some amazing views of the harbour as you drive along, best to stop as you are heading there.

Governors Bay is a beautifully bay which if you are driving is really difficult to ge to see. There is nowhere to park next to the jetty which is no longer safe to walk on and fenced off and the street higer up also lack enough parking to enable you to get out of your car and look around. This sis unfortunate as it is a beautiful bay.

Close to Christchurch beautiful location but only one access to beach with surrounding roads full of cars. We wanted a stop to have lunch but had to use a bus stop. Scenery is nice but need to have gps so you don’t get lost and are able to explore further

When Ch-ch was originally planned at Teddington, Governor's Bay was to be the Governors' residence. Not a bad spot. The pub has a great view, the Chocolate cafe over the road is one of those places to sneak into for a special occasion and indulge. There are plenty of other places at the head of the bay to visit; gardens and walks. 'Tis a pleasant place to watch the sunrise.

Our homestay was part of a small suburb a few km out of Christchurch. The surrounding hills and the Bay itself present us with some rather spectacular views to die for! We took many many photos of the Bay and the hills that surrounds.
